Training our future police officers has been a passion of Deputy Director Tai Lee since he became a NYS DCJS certified instructor in 2011. Through our continued partnership with the Westchester County Police Department Police Academy, he has been providing TECC-based training alongside police instructors from throughout the county. Did you know that the Center for Disaster Medicine has received funding from the NYS Department of Education to provide all or part of our School Preparedness Program??? Piloted in the Fall of 2022, the Center provided CPR/AED, STOP THE BLEED, Opioid Overdose Prevention, and Incident Command training to the City of Yonkers School District. Since then, school districts throughout Westchester County have taken advantage of this state-funded opportunity. We have added De-escalation Education to our suite of offerings. Is your school district taking the steps to prepare and train their teachers, staff, and administrators with these critical skills??? We kicked off with a BANG!!! Over a year of planning brought us to our first TECC class in Dutchess County for Dutchess County first responders! This collaboration with Dutchess County Government brought EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, and police officers from throughout the county for a weekend of high-quality, high-impact training.

This course was facilitated by Craig Martinez (Fellow), Keely Fell, Tommy Cummings , Steven Stevens, and Tim Lima (Assistant Director).

On April 28, the Center for Disaster Medicine presented its inaugural Tactical EMS (TEMS) Provider course to members of the law enforcement, fire service, and EMS communities. This 5-day, 40-hour course trained them in the principles and skills of being a TEMS Provider as members of a tactical team similar to that of a military combat medic.

This past weekend, high school EMT students were given presentations on Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) 's Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) and Civilian Response Casualty Care (CRCC) courses to enhance their situational awareness and their skills in bleeding control. It's no coincidence that May is Stop the Bleed month. These students were exceptional learners and applied what they learned on the Techline Trauma B80 task trainers.

Hudson Valley first responders taking our TECC-RTF training course joined him and the New York Medical College community in their campaign! Our instructors and students represent first responders from Blooming Grove Volunteer Ambulance , Pleasant Valley Fire Company , Town of Wallkill Police Department , Orange County Sheriff's Office, New York , Peekskill FD , Town of Newburgh EMS, Lagrange FD, and retired NYPD ...
