I’m excited to share that I have successfully defended my PhD thesis, ‘Targeting IL-1 Signaling in Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa: Improved Survival and Pathogenesis in an RDEB Mouse Model,’ on March 16, 2026.

This work was completed as part of the PhD Program in Microbiology & Immunology. This journey has been long and challenging, but incredibly rewarding. Grateful for the mentors, friends, and family who made it possible—excited to now return to the School of Medicine to continue my clinical training.

A major milestone in a long journey, and I am looking forward to embracing the next chapter of my MD-PhD training.

Today we’re celebrating someone who truly keeps our research moving forward 👏

Mr. Jian Pan has been a part of the NYMC community since 2017, and his dedication, precision, and unwavering support make him an invaluable part of our lab. He is the kind of research associate who not only excels at what he does but also elevates everyone around him—always willing to help, troubleshoot, and collaborate with a positive attitude.

What makes him especially remarkable is his ability to turn challenges into learning opportunities and bring a sense of ease and enjoyment into even the most demanding days in the lab. His reliability, attention to detail, and team-first mindset make collaboration not just productive, but genuinely enjoyable.

Grateful to have you as part of our team—thank you for everything you do! 🔬✨
