Behind every moment of healing, there’s a nurse showing up with strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication.
This Nurses Week, our patients turned the question around, asking their nurses to name the superpower they bring to their work every day. The answers are honest, heartfelt, and a powerful reminder of what nursing really takes.
Because behind every “superpower” is something real: resilience through long shifts, compassion in emotionally demanding moments, strength in the face of constant challenges, and an unwavering commitment to showing up for others.

To every nurse: thank you for the superpowers you carry and share at Blythedale. 🥰 ❤️‍🩹

Day Hospital patient, Aylan, has been taking full advantage of the beautiful weather during his physical therapy sessions. He and his physical therapist, Karen Levy, PT, DPT, are working on improving his lower body mobility by taking bike rides in the courtyard. Born at just 24 weeks of gestation, Alexander faced life-threatening challenges from his very first breath. Diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia and severe subglottic stenosis, a narrowing of the airway, he required a tracheostomy, ventilator support, and a feeding tube to survive.

At 7 months old, Alexander came to Blythedale Children’s Hospital for ventilator weaning and comprehensive rehabilitation.

While Alexander worked hard in speech, feeding, occupational, and physical therapies, his parents trained alongside him — learning how to manage his complex medical needs and respond in emergencies with confidence.

Today, Alexander is making incredible progress. He breathes on his own for much of the day, is learning to stand and crawl, and continues to reach milestones once thought out of reach.

Watch Alexander’s inspiring journey and see how Blythedale's team helped bring him home.
