Islamic books for our children šŸ‘§ ā¤ļø

Posting on behalf of khan - children’s author who is releasing her book, Noura’s Crescent Moon, at Barnes and Noble in Carle Place on April 27th! Link to RSVP: https://partiful.com/e/eksUieolz3WpKl5F2rbc

Let’s rsvp/show up and show our strength!

Below is a message from Zainab:

Salaams!
Muslim Mama but if you have others, I’d be grateful to get the word out.
I had a lot of difficulty getting into B&N (they’re hard for newer authors) for the book launch. I want to show them that IA we are a community and will buy the Muslim books.

B&N has a new policy that they want to keep books on the shelves primarily by authors who are well known. And Muslims are far and few. So, IA I pray we can help make that difference.

JZK for your support! šŸ’œ

Posted • .holistic.psychologist Theresa’s a lot of talk around attachment styles and romantic relationships— but attachment styles deeply impact how we make friends. And how we maintain (or don’t maintain) those friendships.

Keep in mind attachment styles are fluid meaning we can have blended styles of attachment (see ourselves in more than one) AND certain styles can come out in different relationships with different people.

Bookmark this and talk about this with your friends. Tag someone who might find this info helpful. It will really help you understand each other

Posted • Research estimates that postpartum depression occurs in about 17% of mothers across the world. For most mothers, symptoms of depression emerge 4 to 6 weeks after birth and gradually decrease in subsequent months. However, postpartum depression can occur at any time in the 3 years after a pregnancy or birth.

Swipe āž”ļø for research-backed tips for postpartum depression.

If the symptoms of postpartum depression cause significant distress or impair your day-to-day-functioning or if you are experiencing any thoughts related to harming yourself or others, you should contact a mental health professional immediately.Ā

Posted • Happy early Mother’s Day to all of the mothers out there!!! šŸ’•šŸ’ You deserve a whole week of celebration even if you are lucky to even get one day! šŸ˜…

Research finds that a mother’s love and affection in childhood is associated with less distress as an adult (Maselko, Kubzansky, Lipsitt, & Buka, 2011). šŸ’—

This study included 482 individuals. The researchers measured the mother’s affectionate behavior when the child was 8 months old and then looked at how it related to emotional functioning in adulthood. They found that mothers who were more affectionate with their infants were more likely to have adult children with lower levels of emotional distress. In particular, these adults often showed lower levels of anxiety.

How can you help your child to feel your love this Mother’s Day?

1. Praise your child and regularly tell them what you love about them
2. Spend time playing with your children and engaging in activities that they enjoy
3. Cuddle, hug, kiss, and give your children a lot of physical affection
4. Find ways to laugh with them (use inside jokes, roughhousing, reading a funny book, etc.)
5. Really listen to them and validate their feelings

Posted • .holistic.psychologist Lena was raised by an anxious mom who made her responsible for managing her emotions.

Anytime something stressful happened (even minor things like her having to return something to the store) she would lash out at Lena. ā€œLena, your room needs to be spotless now!ā€ Or ā€œyou’re so ungrateful for all I do for you!ā€ as she played.

She learned to walk on eggshells.

Lena’s mother wasn’t aware of it but she was conditioning her to ā€œfixā€ her feelings. By 12 Lena was hypervigilant, over-aware of her moms moods and energy to stay safe.

Lance, her boyfriend, is laid back like her father. Sometimes he gets quiet or feels low after work. Lena can’t tolerate it. She’s learned other people’s negative emotions as a threat to her own well-being. ā€œAre you ok?ā€ Lance would say yes, but Lena used to managing her mother’s emotions, would keep pushing. ā€œAre you SURE everything is ok?ā€

Lance feels frustrated and smothered. ā€œI told you I am ok. Stop askingā€ Lena goes right into fight or flight. His tone feels critical and she responds with ā€œwhat is your problem?!ā€

Lena never leaned emotional boundaries. She didn’t get the opportunity to witness a stable adult who could just be in their own mood then eventually self regulate. She projects her mother into Lance and mistakenly believes his mood is something to change or fix.

Lance doesn’t know Lena has had to be the emotional manager of her home since she was a child. Being asked if he’s ok brings up shame or a feeling that something is wrong with him. He just wants to be left alone to self regulate and have the mood pass.

He wants it to be ok for him to not be happy and engaged without feeling like it’s something to fix
