Sad day in the O&P world! He will be remembered for all the good he committed to care and education in prosthetics and orthotics!

We are saddened to share that Gunter H. Gehl, CP, former NUPOC faculty member and Director of Prosthetics Education, passed away on October 31, 2025.

Gunter joined Northwestern University in 1966 as an instructor and served as Director of the Prosthetics Education Program from 1977 until his retirement in 1992, later earning the title of Professor Emeritus. His leadership and dedication helped shape generations of prosthetists, leaving a lasting impact on the profession and on NUPOC.

He will be remembered for his lifelong commitment to education, service, and the O&P community. Instead of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations in Gunter's name be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 8:30-10:30 AM at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave., Chicago, IL, 60625, with a service taking place at 10:30 AM. Entombment will be at the mausoleum at Rosehill Cemetery, 5800 N. Ravenswood Ave., Chicago, IL, 60660, with military honors rendered.
