PSA - You Can Say No to Homework in Elementary School.
You are allowed to protect your child’s childhood.
You are allowed to prioritize rest, play, and connection over worksheets.
You are allowed to say, “We don’t do homework in our home.”
Study after study shows that homework in the elementary years doesn’t improve learning outcomes.
What it does increase is stress, anxiety, and nightly battles.
Kids spend all day sitting, listening, following directions.
When they come home, they need time to move their bodies, be creative, help with dinner, laugh, and just be.
So if you’re looking for permission to skip the nightly struggle, here it is.
We are losing daylight quickly.
Let them be outside.
Let them play.
*I’ll put a sample letter I wrote to my daughter’s teacher in the comments.
