Mom...., Mom....., Mom..... Mom!!

Positively or negatively, kids go after what they need--attention.

One of our human needs is to belong, and when children do not have that need met, it often looks to us like misbehavior. When they don't feel like they belong, we tend to feel annoyed and pestered. We're tempted to say "You're being rude, stop interrupting me!" Or "Leave me alone, I can't stand all the questions!"

We need to balance a firm approach of healthy boundaries and still stay connected with our kids. When we better understand how to do this we end up with a more calm and connected relationship.

Perfect kids? No. Becoming a perfect parent? No such thing.
But it is never too late to have a better relationship with your child.

With Mother's Day just behind us, I think about the joys AND the challenges of being a parent. No wonder there are holidays for mothers and fathers! Parenting is hard, and it should be celebrated.

I have been so thankful as a parent of four to receive guidance and training from the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting program (STEP). I've been a parent for 19 years now and can certainly see the difference in myself as I used to let anger and rules dictate my approach.

Please don't miss this opportunity to invest in your parenting. It is never too late to have a better relationship with your child. The time and effort you spend learning these tools will help you for years, even decades to come.

Join me and a group of other parents on Thursday nights in June for valuable, hope giving, and practical training to becoming a more calm and connected parent to your child.
