Adolescent and Young Adult Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program (IOP)
Mission Statement:
Dedicated to strengthening our community one family at a time. Offering adolescents, young adults, and families a safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment to learn, grow, and make positive changes. Providing support to community mental health and emphasizing the importance of how it takes a community to raise a child. Program Overview:
Using an evidenced-based approach, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), we teach adolescents, young adults, and their families skills to address maladaptive, self-destructive behaviors. During the 10 to 12 week program patients and their families will focus on the core DBT skills including: mindfulness, interpersonal-effectiveness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and the middle path approach. The program also incorporates other treatment modalities including: the 12–step model, hands-on activities, specialty groups, and experiential therapies, including art and yoga. Both patients and their families benefit from a group approach and positive social support. Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is individually tailored to meet each patient’s specific needs. Upon admission, each patient will go through an extensive intake questionnaire and past history with a licensed mental health provider. The patient will also receive a standardized diagnostic personality test [MMPI(A)] to help determine specific target areas, develop treatment plans, assist in differential diagnosis, and help assist in the therapeutic assessment process. Upon admission the patient will be placed in one—or more, based on highest level of severity first—of the four treatment paths: substance abuse, eating disorders, self-injury, and depression/anxiety. This allows us to comprehensively address patients with dual disorders and accommodate their care based on their present needs. Parents also participate in various groups, which provide parent education and coaching, skill training, and parental support. Each parent works to gain an understanding and acceptance of their own family dynamics and work with staff and their child to promote change.
