Comfort measures are not “nice extras.”

They are real, physical tools that change how labor feels.

Counter pressure.
Hip squeezes.
Movement.
Breathing patterns.
Rebozo techniques.
Position changes.

These aren’t trends.

They help:
✔️ Reduce back pain
✔️ Support baby’s position
✔️ Decrease tension
✔️ Increase oxytocin
✔️ Keep you grounded

Pain + panic feels overwhelming.
Intensity + support feels manageable.

Inside my private Comfort Measures class, we practice these hands-on techniques so you and your partner know exactly what to do.

No guessing.
No standing in the corner.
No “just breathe.”

Real tools. Real practice.

You were never meant to “just handle” birth.

Not alone.
Not guessing.
Not hoping it all works out.

Birth is intense — physically and emotionally.

Preparation doesn’t make it easy.

It makes it steady.

And steady changes everything.

If you’re expecting this year and want to walk into labor feeling informed instead of overwhelmed, I would love to teach you.

Let’s talk about dilation.

Because it’s not what most people think.

Dilation is just the opening of the cervix — measured from 0 to 10 centimeters.

But here’s what matters:

Dilation does not move in a straight line.

You can be:
• 3 cm for days
• 4 cm for hours
• 5 cm and still go home
• 6 cm and move quickly
• 8 cm and still feel calm

The number alone doesn’t tell the whole story.

Labor progress is about:
✔️ Cervical change
✔️ Effacement (thinning)
✔️ Baby’s position
✔️ Contraction pattern
✔️ How your body is working

And here’s something most people don’t hear:

You don’t feel centimeters.

You feel intensity.

When you understand how labor unfolds, you stop obsessing over the number and start trusting the process.

Inside my Lamaze Childbirth Workshop, we break down what dilation actually means — and how to interpret it calmly instead of fearfully.

If you’re expecting and want to understand what’s happening in your body instead of Googling during labor, I would love to teach you.

You don’t have to be “strong” in labor.

You don’t have to be quiet.

You don’t have to be stoic.

You don’t have to impress anyone.

Birth is not about looking strong.

It’s about feeling supported.

You might:
• Moan.
• Cry.
• Get quiet.
• Get loud.
• Ask for reassurance.
• Change your mind.

That doesn’t mean you’re failing.

It means you’re working.

Strength in labor doesn’t look like silence.

It looks like staying present.

It looks like breathing through one contraction at a time.

It looks like saying, “I need help,” and receiving it.

Inside my Lamaze Childbirth Workshop, we talk about what labor actually looks like — physically and emotionally — so you aren’t surprised by your own intensity.

Preparation doesn’t make you robotic.

It makes you steady.

If you’re expecting this year and want to feel grounded instead of pressured to “perform,” I would love to teach you.

Most people think pushing happens flat on your back.

But that’s just one option.

And often not the most effective one.

Your body can push in many positions:

• Side-lying (gentle and controlled)
• Hands and knees (great for back labor)
• Squatting (uses gravity + opens the pelvis)
• Supported upright (partner behind you)
• Kneeling over the bed
• On a birth stool

Different positions can:

✔️ Help baby rotate
✔️ Reduce tearing
✔️ Shorten pushing
✔️ Make pushing feel more instinctive
✔️ Protect your energy

Your pelvis moves.

When you change positions, you change the space available for your baby.

And here’s what matters most:

When pushing begins, you won’t suddenly “remember options.”

You’ll fall back on what you practiced.

Inside my Lamaze Childbirth Workshop, we talk through pushing physiology and positioning so you feel informed — not surprised.

If you’re expecting and want to understand how your body works in the pushing phase, I would love to teach you.

“ What if I can’t handle the pain?”

If that thought has crossed your mind, you are not alone.

Almost every first-time parent wonders this.

Not because they are weak.

But because birth is unknown.

And the unknown feels big.

Here’s what I want you to know:

It’s not about having a high pain tolerance.

It’s about having tools.

When you understand:
• what contractions are doing
• how to breathe through intensity
• how to move with your body
• how your partner can physically support you
• what is normal

Intensity feels purposeful instead of scary.

Confidence doesn’t come from pretending you’re not afraid.

It comes from preparation.

Inside my Lamaze Childbirth Workshop, we practice real techniques that help you stay steady when things get intense.

If you’re expecting and want to feel prepared instead of panicked, I would love to teach you.

I am prepared.
I am capable.
I am allowed to take up space in my birth.

Preparation brings confidence.
Confidence brings calm.

Your birth is not a performance.

It’s not something you win.

It’s not something you “fail.”

It’s not a competition with your friend, your sister, or someone on Instagram.

You don’t get a medal for:
• Going unmedicated
• Laboring the longest
• Having the shortest birth
• Pushing the fastest
• “Doing it perfectly”

Birth is not about proving anything.

It’s about feeling safe.
It’s about feeling supported.
It’s about making informed decisions.
It’s about walking away feeling respected.

The goal isn’t to impress anyone.

The goal is to feel steady in your own experience.

That’s why preparation matters.

Inside my Lamaze Childbirth Workshop, we don’t train for a “perfect birth.”

We prepare you to feel confident no matter how your birth unfolds.

If you’re expecting this year and want preparation without pressure, I would love to teach you.

What partners are thinking… but not saying:

“I’m scared I won’t know what to do.”

“I don’t want to see you in pain.”

“What if I mess something up?”

“Am I supposed to say something right now?”

“Why does everyone else look like they know what they’re doing?”

Most partners want one thing:

To help.

But without preparation, they feel unsure.
And when they feel unsure, they go quiet.

Birth is not a spectator event.

When partners know:

✔️ Where to apply counter pressure
✔️ How to guide breathing
✔️ When to suggest movement
✔️ What’s normal and what isn’t
✔️ How to advocate respectfully

They don’t stand in the corner.

They become steady.
Confident.
Grounded.

And that changes the entire energy of the room.

Inside my Comfort Measures class, I teach partners exactly what to do — hands-on techniques, real scenarios, real practice.

Because confident support changes everything.

If you’re due this year and want your partner to feel prepared instead of helpless, this class is for you.

No one really explains what contractions actually feel like.

They don’t usually feel like the dramatic movie version.

They feel like:

• A wave that builds slowly
• Tightening across your belly or back
• Pressure that rises, peaks, and then fades
• Intensity that comes and goes

A contraction is not constant pain.

It has a beginning.
A middle.
An end.

That matters.

Because if you understand that every contraction ends,
you stop fighting it.

Instead of thinking, “I can’t do this,”
you start thinking, “This wave will pass.”

And that mental shift changes everything.

In my private Comfort Measures class, we practice:

✔️ What to do during the beginning of a contraction
✔️ How to breathe through the peak
✔️ What positions reduce intensity
✔️ How partners can physically help
✔️ Hands-on techniques that make a real difference

Preparation doesn’t remove intensity.

It removes panic.

If you’re expecting and want real, practical tools for labor, this class is for you.

I got to teach a 3hr Comfort Measures in Labor class to these two amazing nursing students yesterday, and what a blast we had 😆 They asked great questions and I was able to show them how our hormones can work for us in labor and birth.

Are you a nursing student that needs to take an in-person Childbirth Class? Feel free to reach out and we'll make it happen! ❤️

“I’ll sign up for a childbirth class later.”

I hear this all the time.

But here’s the truth:

The earlier you prepare, the calmer your pregnancy feels.

When you understand:
• how labor unfolds
• what’s normal
• what your options are
• how to manage discomfort
• how to include your partner

You stop spiraling every time you read something online.

You stop fearing every new sensation.

You start feeling steady.

Birth preparation isn’t just about the day you go into labor.

It changes how you experience the entire rest of your pregnancy.

Inside my Lamaze Childbirth Workshop, we don’t just prepare for “the big day.”

We build confidence now.

If you’re expecting this year, don’t wait until you’re uncomfortable and 36+ weeks.

About Sabine Hankiewicz CD(DONA)

My name is Sabine Hankiewicz. I was born in Austria, Europe. I am a mother of two (raised three) and always loved anything that had to do with pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and breastfeeding. After moving to North America, I decided to make my dream a reality and became a doula. I have a passion for evidence based birth and and I believe that every birthing person deserves to be treated like the queen that she is.
