Did you know that about 1.1 million people in the United States are living with Parkinson's disease (PD)? 🌷

🧠 This progressive brain disorder is perhaps most well known for causing tremors, but other symptoms include loss of vocal volume, sleep disruptions, stiffness, and balance issues, among others.

Thankfully, there are ways to improve Parkinson's symptoms! 😀 Our therapy team offers rehabilitation services to help improve mobility, range of motion, function, and speech for those living with PD. Call us to see how we can support you or your loved one.

What does Occupational Therapy look like❓

It looks like someone practicing how to button a shirt again. 👔 Rebuilding the strength and dexterity to hold a coffee cup. ☕ Rehearsing the motions to prepare a simple meal and learning to use a reacher to safely pick things up without bending 🫳.

During Occupational Therapy Month, we’re celebrating the amazing therapists who help our rehab patients rebuild confidence, independence, and the skills that make daily life meaningful. 🫶

We recently received a sweet, handwritten letter from a former rehab patient, Alice. Here is what she shared:

📝 "To all the Nurses, Aides, Therapists, and all within the Life Care Center.
Thank you, Nurses, for your excellent care and always with a smile!
Thank you, Aides. All the Aides were amazing — especially Kimberly, Letty, Vanessa, and Amber, who were very caring and prayerful and helped me with encouragement.
This is clearly the BEST rehab/nursing home ever! If I ever need to go to rehab or a nursing home facility, this is the one I will choose. God bless you all."

Congratulations to our Speech Therapist, Natalie Pearce, on recently achieving her VitalStim certification! 🎉

VitalStim is a therapeutic tool that Natalie uses to help patients with swallowing. It uses neuromuscular electrical stimulation to improve the muscles used for swallowing. Thank you so much to Valpo.Life for featuring Natalie's accomplishment this week! 📰

We are so glad Natalie is on our team to help our patients with not only swallowing, but also speech, language, comprehension, and cognition as well. 🗣️
