A big congratulations to Dr. Hess on winning the Tampa Bay Top Docs award four years in a row! One of his patients, John Kost, shares his story:
"I first met Dr. Hess when I was having severe issues with my right wrist. After 32 years in law enforcement, 16 on a SWAT team, and more than 40 years of martial arts, my wrist had taken the brunt of it. For decades I pushed through pain and limitations until I finally began searching for a solution. After several appointments with numerous orthopedic surgeons, I found the right one: Dr. Hess.
He carefully explained my X-rays and MRI, reassuring me he could repair the damage using pins to stabilize the wrist and secure a tendon. He assured me that with time to heal, I could return to normal activities. The surgery was a success. I regained use of my wrist, went back to martial arts, and, most importantly, could hold my grandsons without pain.
Years later, I returned to Dr. Hess with severe pain at the base of my left thumb. I was unable to open a door handle, a pickle jar, hold a book, let alone guide hunts or any of the work it took to help keep the camp running. The issue, arthritis at the base of the thumb, had worsened significantly. Dr. Hess recommended surgery to remove the damaged bone and used a cable and screws to restore function. Once again, the results were life-changing.
Beyond his surgical skill, Dr. Hess went above and beyond for me. Because I have an autoimmune condition, he factored in those challenges and even invited residents and fellows to learn about how such conditions affect recovery. His commitment to both his patients and to teaching makes him an extraordinary physician.
To this day, I’m deeply grateful for his expertise, compassion, and dedication. Thank you, Dr. Hess, for being there for us."
