Lateral patellar instability often occurs after a kneecap dislocation caused by sports or a traumatic injury. When this happens, the patella slips out of its groove on the femur toward the outside of the knee.

This typically occurs when the knee is straight or only slightly bent and can damage important stabilizing ligaments like the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL), sometimes leading to ongoing instability and discomfort.

Lateral patellar instability is commonly caused following a patella dislocation during athletic activities or other traumatic event.

Osteoarthritis of the shoulder affects millions of Americans and is a common cause of ongoing shoulder pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. This condition develops when the smooth cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones gradually wears away due to aging, prior injury, or repetitive use.

While there is currently no cure for arthritis and the damage cannot be reversed, many treatment options exist to help reduce pain, improve function, and protect the joint.

Cartilage restoration and joint preservation are shoulder replacement alternatives for patients suffering from shoulder osteoarthritis.
