Partial rotator cuff tears can make lifting, rotating, or reaching painful and limit daily activities. Articular-side tears, or PASTA tears, are especially challenging.

Dr. Getelman uses a minimally invasive arthroscopic approach to examine the tendon, debride frayed edges, and perform PASTA repair when appropriate, helping patients regain shoulder strength and motion.

A PASTA repair was coined by the Southern California Orthopedic Institute & is designed to treat a partial articular supraspinatus tendon avulsion (PASTA).

The menisci are cartilage “shock absorbers” in your knee, protecting bones and distributing stress during activity. When torn, they often can’t heal on their own. Dr. Getelman, an expert in meniscal surgery, carefully reviews MRI scans to determine whether a meniscectomy or repair is best.

His goal: preserve as much healthy meniscus as possible to maintain knee function and prevent arthritis.

Here is what else you need to know ⬇️

The recommended meniscus surgery is based on the location and pattern of the tear. A meniscectomy is performed if the tear is located in the white zone.

The shoulder’s incredible mobility allows us to lift, rotate, and reach, but it also makes the joint prone to instability. Chronic shoulder instability can damage the glenoid, leading to bone loss. Whether caused by traumatic dislocation or repetitive strain, patients need careful evaluation.

Dr. Getelman specializes in diagnosing and treating these complex injuries to restore stability and function.

Shoulder instability may occur from a traumatic shoulder dislocation or repetitive strain placed on the ligaments that causes them to become loose.

Who May Benefit from Bioinductive Augmentation?

Bioinductive bovine augmentation may be recommended for:
• Partial rotator cuff tears as an alternative to more invasive procedures
• Large rotator cuff tears that can be repaired but carry a higher risk for healing complications

Each case is carefully evaluated to determine if this approach is appropriate. Here is what else you should know ⬇️

A bioinductive bovine augmentation is a new surgical rotator cuff repair that uses a bioinductive implant, with the graft placed over the injured tendon.

If bone quality is compromised, ACL revision may be staged:
1️⃣ Remove torn graft & bone grafting
2️⃣ 4-6 months later, reconstruct ACL with the proper graft

This ensures a strong foundation for success.

ACL revision surgery is generally more difficult to perform after failed ACL surgery because there may be scar tissue & elements from the original surgery.

Why You Shouldn’t Ignore Patellar Tendon Pain

Patellar tendonitis often starts as mild discomfort, but without treatment, ongoing stress can lead to chronic tendon damage known as patellar tendinopathy.

Left untreated, the condition can become harder to manage and may eventually require surgical intervention.

Addressing symptoms early can mean:
✔ Less downtime
✔ Faster recovery
✔ Better long-term knee health

Patellar tendonitis, referred to as jumper’s knee, is an overuse injury that causes pain at the front and bottom of the kneecap.

Why is the Latarjet procedure so effective for shoulder instability?

It restores stability through a “triple blocking effect” that combines bone reconstruction, soft tissue reinforcement, and capsular repair which addresses both ligament damage and bone loss.

Patients who have frequent dislocations develop loss of bony stability in addition to the ligament injury and may be ideal candidates for Latarjet procedure
