Meet a new CHP Nurse! ♥️
Welcome, Katie McVaigh, RN 🩺
♥️What inspired you to work for CHP Home Care & Hospice?
→ I’ve always wanted to work for a company that cares about the community as much as I do. Growing up in Van Wert, I’ve seen how important it is to have compassionate, local care close to home. What drew me to CHP is how deeply involved they are in the community whether it’s through nonprofit work, volunteer programs, or simply being a trusted presence for families when going through some of their worst times. It feels really good to be part of an organization that shows up for our neighbors.
♥️What’s one moment in your nursing career that has stayed with you?
→ A moment that has really stayed with me was caring for a patient through a very tough time in his life after he had a stroke. When his wife later came in as a patient, they both remembered me immediately. They were so grateful and treated me like family. It was a powerful reminder of how the connections we make with patients can last far beyond one hospital stay.
♥️What do you hope patients and families feel when you walk into their home?
→ I hope patients and families feel as though I’m caring for them like they are part of my own family. I want every person I visit to feel truly heard, respected, and comfortable, especially during what can be such a vulnerable time.
I graduated from Van Wert High School in 2020 and earned my associate degree in nursing from Rhodes State College in 2024. I have three dogs who are basically my children, and I’ve been with my boyfriend for six years. In my free time, I love reading, crafting, and gardening, they’re my favorite ways to relax and recharge. 🙂

📶Yesterday, CHP Hospice physicians from our northern offices - Dr. Kevin Park and Dr. Beth Besaw - recorded our first podcast with Wendy Gericke of CHP as moderator. Their discussion covered topics like: When should someone start thinking about hospice care? What are the signs a family should look for? Do most people wait too long? And, what happens if you start hospice earlier vs. later? We will release the podcast soon...stay tuned. 📻
