Hello Apothecary Circle,

For parents that are interested in using herbal remedies for their children, here are the dosages that I go by when recommending herbals to families.

As controversial as using alcohol based tinctures for children may be, when looking at the dosage chart (which is in drops) it comes out to be a minuscule amount especially when diluted in a cup or juice, milk or water. I enjoy using glycerin as a tincture menstruum, it doesn’t pull out all the compounds that alcohol does. So even though it is more user friendly to all, the tincture isn’t as strong as it would be with alcohol.

I hope you take advantage of this dosage chart and it hopefully helps all the families feel more confident in their dosages when using herbal remedies at home.

Hello Apothecary Circle,

I wanted to share with you some new products that will be available today at the Fairfield Harbor farmers market and also will have them available for pick up as well.

Skin soothe lotion is an all natural lotion that can be used for a variety of skin issues including but not limited to: eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and an overall moisturizer. It can be used on the entire body including the face. It contains a 1% dilution of essential oil and the essential oils used also have pain relieving, anti-inflammatory, calming, mood regulating, and antidepressant properties.

The second product being introduced is the long awaited Aller-G-Ease tincture helping support the body against seasonal allergies. This tincture contains Stinging Nettle, Purple Dead Nettle, and Goldenrod. This tincture does contain alcohol, as alcohol is a stronger medium to extract all plant compounds, but is given in small doses and can be diluted in juice or water. Each use can also be put into a small jar and the jar can be placed in a pot of boiling water to allow the alcohol to evaporate.

Hello Apothecary Circle,

As I finish up the chapter on Women’s Health for one of my herbal courses, Rosemary Gladstar chose to end it with this conclusion paragraph. I thought it was beautifully worded so I figured I would share it with all of you.

A gentle reminder that all stages of life are beautiful in their own way and there is much to learn from are elders and ancestors before us.

Hello Apothecary Circle,

Breath is one of the most direct pathways to the body—and inhalation allows essential oils to work almost instantly with the nervous system. 🌿

Through the simple act of breathing, aromatic compounds travel to the brain, influencing mood, calming stress, and supporting mental clarity. Whether it’s a moment of stillness with a steam bowl, a drop in your palms, or a gentle diffusion into your space, inhalation transforms your environment into medicine.

Sometimes, the deepest healing doesn’t require more… just a mindful breath.

Hello Apothecary Circle,

One of our strongest forms of medicine is not found in a bottle, tincture, or tea. It is found within nature and is nature itself. Spending time outside and letting our curiosity run wild is incredibly beneficial for our health. It can also be quite uplifting to our spirits and can help ease stress and anxiety.

Not to mention the benefits of fresh air, as the air inside of our house that we breathe in is 2-5 times more polluted than the air outside.

Breathe in the fresh air, explore the outdoors, and partake in some forest bathing. Let your body be exposed to all that nature has to offer, as well as breathing in the phytoncides, which are antimicrobial organic compounds released by trees. These compounds boost the immune system by increasing the count of Natural Killer cells. These specialized white blood cells help fight against infections and cancer.

Hello Apothecary Circle,

My interview with David Winston was today at 2:30! I was very excited but also nervous to speak with him but the interview went very well.

The first round of acceptances go out May 28th for the program but because he could see a little of himself in me as well as seeing my passion for herbalism he offered to choose me for the course on the spot. I am truly humbled and honored for this opportunity and want to learn everything that I can during this next 2 years.
Thank you God for putting this in my path and I am so blessed to have this opportunity.

Hello Apothecary Circle,

This morning I was admiring some Evening Primrose that was blooming before its flowers were closed by the morning sun. They had been decorated by the morning dew.

Evening primrose ( Oenothera biennis) is a medicinal plant that grows wild in our area. Its flowers are used to treat respiratory ailments such as whooping cough and asthma. Herbal infusions and decoctions can be taken to calm gastrointestinal complaints as well as bowel pain. The flowers have also been traditionally used to soothe menstrual cramping and kidney problems.

Hello Apothecary Circle,

I have some exciting news to share. Tomorrow I have my much anticipated interview with David Winston, an internationally renowned registered herbalist with the American Herbalist Guild. He has been my idol and role model for quite some time now. I have been waiting for this interview for the past year so I am extremely excited to hopefully secure a spot in his 2 year long clinical herbalism program that he himself handpicks who gets in and who doesn’t.

I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for myself as well as Crown & Mortar.

Borage—starflower of the garden and a quiet healer

Traditionally cherished for its cooling, soothing nature, borage supports the body in gentle but powerful ways. From easing respiratory discomfort to calming inflamed skin like eczema and rashes, this herb carries a soft, restorative touch. Borage strengthens skin structure, helping fight against skin irritations and disorders. It acts as an expectorant on the respiratory system while also containing mucilage that soothes coughs, bronchitis, and other symptoms of the common cold.

Known for its uplifting effect on mood and its affinity for supporting hormone balance, borage has long been used to bring both emotional and physical harmony. It has been used to help with menopausal symptoms as well as support adrenal function. Its mild diuretic action also helps encourage the body’s natural detox pathways, making it a beautiful ally for overall wellness.
