To follow up on last weeks post, here’s a quick and dirty cheat sheet on fat soluble vitamins.

It’s important to know that fat soluble vitamins are stored in fat tissues and the liver. Because they can be stored, unlike water soluble vitamins, overconsumption of fat soluble vitamins can be dangerous. And supplementing high amounts without supervision can lead to serious consequences.

Did you learn something new? Let me know in the comments.

Water soluble vitamins are essential nutrients and because they dissolve in 💧 they aren’t stored in the body in significant doses. This is why it’s important to have a varied diet 🫑🥦🍓🍗 in order to consume and then absorb these vitamins.

Did you learn something new about any of these vitamins?

We are products of our environment. If you’re not growing or flourishing, you need to look at that.

If you plant a flower in a pot and it isn’t growing, you would never think “I guess there’s something wrong with the flower.” No 🙅🏼‍♀️ You start looking at factors like 💧 or ☀️ and you adjust those.

Our bodies are exactly the same way! Nutrition, exercise, sleep habits, relationships, and many other factors affect our bodies and can either help us thrive🤩 or wither😩.

It can be hard to make those changes but you’ll never regret taking steps to change your life. It doesn’t have to be a drastic change to start either. It could be something as simple as starting your day with a glass of water.

Comment below with one small change you can make 👇🏻

When you think of what to watch for with breast cancer, what do you think of? For most people, a breast lump is the most common thing being looked for. BUT…those aren’t the only signs of breast cancer.
🚩Breast swelling
🚩Skin dimpling (it may look like an 🍊 peel)
🚩Breast pain or ni**le pain
🚩Nipple turned inward (ni**le retraction)
🚩Red, dry, flaking, or thickened breast skin
🚩Nipple discharge other than breast milk
🚩Swollen lymph node under the arms or near the collar bones

This is why it’s so important to know your body and do a monthly self breast exam because not everyone notices a lump.

It’s fall here in the PNW and it’s finally cooling off and actually feeling like it. (If you don’t live here, we had some serious rain and minor flooding yesterday 😳). Cooler weather = more tea drinking for me. One of my go to teas is green tea.

Camellia sinensis (the tea plant) has tons of benefits and is something I try to include almost daily.

Benefits include:
🌱Antioxidant properties (from the polyphenol EGCG)
🌱Improved brain function
🌱Anti-cancer effects
🌱Improved oral health
🌱Better blood sugar control

If you don’t like green tea, I always recommend adding an herbal tea (my favorite is raspberry) to cut some of the strong flavor to make it more palatable.

Breast cancer has many risk factors some of which you can’t change (non-modifiable). These include:
🔸Age - we can’t help getting older and age is a risk factor for many cancers, not just breast. Most breast cancers are diagnosed after age 50.

🔸Genetic mutations - these are inherited changes to genes that have a known increases risk of cancer. The most commons mutations are BRCA1 and BRCA2.

🔸Family history - women who have family history of breast or ovarian cancer from a first degree relative (mom, sister, daughter) are more likely.

🔸Dense breasts - dense breasts are due to more glandular tissue within the breasts and less fat. Breast cancer develops in glandular tissue so more glands leads to a higher risk.

Even if you have one or more of these risk factors (I have 2 of these), the important factors to focus on are what you CAN change because those truly help to lower your risk.

Don’t know what those are? Don’t worry. Check back tomorrow for my video on modifiable risk factors.

September is PCOS awareness month. PCOS types have similarities and many women with PCOS share symptoms even if they have different types. This is why a treatment may work for some and not for others 🤔

Some common symptoms include:
🌀Excess body hair growth
🌀Difficulty losing weight
🌀Acne
🌀Low s*x drive
🌀Insulin resistance
🌀Fatigue

If you’re struggling with PCOS and want to learn more about how naturopathic medicine can help, DM or call my office to set up a free consultation.

Naturopathic oncology focuses on supporting cancer patients throughout their treatment journey and beyond. I work alongside patients during treatment to reduce side effects, improve treatment outcomes, and enhance quality of life. I utilize various modalities to do this including:

🔹Herbs
🔹Supplements
🔹Homeopathy
🔹Nutrition
🔹Stress management practices
🔹Acupuncture (although not something I can do in my practice I refer many patients for acupuncture to manage side effects and support them)

What questions do you have about naturopathic oncology?
