SATURDAY CLASSES IN VANCOUVER, WA—

A few shots and video clips from both beginner and advanced class this morning! In the Beginner Class, we run through the entire Bikram Yoga series from start to finish. I make sure to take time out to break down important techniques so the participants understand what they’re doing. It’s important to enable folks to trust the process, especially if they’re just getting into movement practice or dealing with chronic pain of some kind.

I included a little video of a soapbox moment I had in advanced class..I mean it! Sometimes people hold themselves back because they see somebody doing a posture that looks unattainable. Indeed, the people who struggle the most tend to become the strongest practitioners with the most capacity to teach others on the other side of the struggle—as long as they just keep showing up & don’t give up.

It is very important to me that the people who come to class know I’m on your side, I am your friend, I believe in you, I’m invested in your best life, and I want to walk the road to greater levels of health and wellbeing together.

Come to Beginner class if you’re new to this! 8am at the Aero Club in Vancouver, WA. My teacher buddies or the experienced yoga or movement practitioners of different styles & lineages—you’re welcome to come to Advanced Class at 9:45am. Or if you have the itch, come to both classes! Yoga is a safe and effective way to move energy and information to feel better on every level. You can do a whole lot of yoga if you want to, and you feel good after the fact.

Moving & learning with a community of folks with growth mindset and wellness on the brain?! What a good way to kickstart your weekend. You deserve it. DM me for a link to register for one of the Saturday classes!

8-9:30am— Beginner Class
9:45am-11:45am-Advanced Class

(We will meet next on Saturday August 9th—no class next Saturday, August 2nd as I will be out of town.)

Allie Yoga is at Kids Day America in Vancouver, WA! Kids Day America is an annual kids’ Health & Safety event. This year it was sponsored by Dr. Kathy Thomas at Healing Chiropractic. I did a “BEE 🐝 Your Own Healer” theme. Bubbles from joined us for a short yoga session! I could barely make it through Hands-to-Feet Pose, I was laughing so hard 🤩

I’ve been building something for awhile that I am now hoping to share with my friends & peers. I wrote & copyrighted a training manual for Yoga Teachers, Clinicians, & their assistants a few years ago.

5 years ago (at the beginning of the pandemic), I began to see a real need to team up with medical providers to support people in their efforts to take greater responsibility for their health& wellbeing.

My educational system is comprised of the best technical and conceptual gems I’ve accrued from countless hours of practicing/teaching/ training in yoga and functional movement for last nearly two decades.

I loved teaching yoga from the beginning. My original sense of purpose & the undercurrent of my dream for contributing to bettering society was to help ANYBODY who walked into the yoga studio, regardless of age, medical condition, and fitness level. I knew I needed to learn from others, over time, to get there. I’m grateful I focused on slowly building over time and staying the course. Coming into one’s own takes time.

I wrote it after my last long stint in India in 2017-2018. I created a curriculum for myself based on “filling the gaps” in my understanding and bank of knowledge. I am still a student & also I am at a point where it’s now appropriate to share what I have.

The system is comprised of universal principles of biomechanics & basic concepts that are crucial for laying the groundwork for a successful, effective, sustainable yoga practice.

We’ll cover 3 of the principles in a workshop on Saturday May 17th at Mija Hot Yoga in St. John’s, Portland:

1) Co-activation Around Joint Complex for Joint Health

2) Engaging your Upper Trunk for Stability Training in Your Yoga Practice

3) Anatomy of the Abdomen: A true game changer for me—practical techniques & application for the different abdominal muscles in your postures.

I chose the shot of Standing Head to Knee because it was always so hard for me. I’ll show you how to apply all 3 principles so you can also develop your stability, flexibility & strength.

~YOGA STUDIO OWNERS & MEDICAL PROVIDERS~

Are you interested in hosting a Functional Movement Workshop Series for Beginning Yoga Students at your studio or clinic?

Sharon(in the video testimonial) just retired and is now developing a consistent yoga practice and I will tell you what…

Holy Transformation, Batman ✨🪷🤩

She’s now moving in a way that speaks of a human being truly trusting the process. She’s moving her hips, side body is opening, backbend is improving remarkably, she’s centered and practicing consistently with focus, faith & resolve. It’s so cool to watch her go.

Slide #2 is a bit of marketing material about the therapeutic benefits you can expect with regular practice and a little bit about my background.

Next workshop is scheduled for May 17th for local people who want to check it out.

We will be covering:

1) Joint Stabilization,
2) Anatomy of the Abdomen, and
3) Upper Trunk Stabilization—very helpful for the one-leg balancing postures.

These workshops are equally good for regular yoga practitioners advancing their practice, and for those who mainly need the therapeutic benefits ongoing for general wellness, post-op & injury recovery.

Reach out if you’d like to book this workshop at your own studio or clinic!

I’m back in the Vancouver and Portland area and it feels so good! I’m excited to team up with in St. John’s for this special event. I designed this workshop for Bikram Yoga practitioners and patients of medical providers interested in starting a yoga practice to take the reins on their general health and rehab journeys.

My goal here is to build bridges between the yoga and medical worlds because teaming up means everyone gets better together. This workshop is equally applicable to folks who are interested in yoga for preventing and healing medical conditions, as well as those who are interested in improving athletic performance, because the techniques are based on universal principles of biomechanics.

Thank you to studio owner Adrianna at Mija Hot Yoga for supporting this effort and I’m looking forward to seeing what we’re able to accomplish together!

Pre-register at mijahotyoga.com. Please note you’re welcome to take class after the workshop. We’ll use that time to integrate the techniques so they’re yours forever. This is an awesome value for what I’m offering here, so I hope you’re able to make it. Reach out if you have any questions.

MEXICO MAGNIFICO✨🌞✨

I’m grateful for this time away. I put fuel in the tank(thanks again to Kay & Carmen for some wonderful beginner yoga classes), cooking, indulging the local fare(I had some amazing chicken enchiladas last night). don’t know if there’s better medicine than sun, ocean, & human connection.

Here are a few photos of the people of Playa del Carmen and me. By far, the “Most Interesting Person” Award goes to my new friend, Luis.

Luis was my taxi driver from one of the beaches I visited. He wanted me to sit up front, so I obliged. Turned out, he was fluent in English, having spent the better part of 20 years in the United States. We drove around the streets of Playa for awhile just because we were having a good talk. We talked about the meaning of life, his perspective on love & relationships, and what he learned in jail. Luis spent 84 months in prison in the U.S., first for drug charges but he said they kept adding time because he was an illegal immigrant. A member of a Los Angeles gang back-in-the-day called The Border Brothers(he showed me his tattoo), this guy practically had pearls of wisdom coming out of his ears. I picked his brain about prison, what it was like & what he learned.

I asked him, “What is the most important thing you learned in prison?” He got very serious & said, “ You know, in prison you can see who people truly are. The guy walking around on the street acting so cool & tough goes to prison and he is crying for his Mommy. So you have to get very strong in your mind, and you have to decide that’s what you will do very fast. But the most important thing I learned is how lucky we are to be free. Even if you are poor, and you have no shoes, you are walking around the streets, even then you are free. You can go anywhere. This is the most important thing.”

You know, I can get pretty wrapped up in my work. I love what I do. Yet, always living this way can sometimes feel like I ought to free myself from being bound by chains of my own making. To wake celebrating that I’m free seems like an upgrade…a worthy jumping-off point for enjoying & embracing the gift of Life.

So proud of how my team showed up Saturday on the virtual qualifier for the yoga championships, sponsored by USA Yoga.

Mexico, yoga, down-regulating my nervous system, sunshine, siestas, good wholesome homemade organic food, competition prep together-from-afar…Me encanta la energia simple de pais. Puedo respirar aqui. Gracias un millón de veces💗🙏La medicina de la vida es muy buena. Lo siento si mi español no es bueno!

Kay, Carmén (resident kombucha master and Bikram teacher at Kay’s studio), and Marta(student) and I pulled oracle cards from the gorgeous deck near the front desk at Hot Yoga Playa.

If you are not Spanish-speaking, the card translates to,

“Be thankful for what you have.”

I almost cried when I pulled the card—the good kind of tears! The ones that come with appreciation & gratitude because thank goodness I’m finally winning the game of trusting the process of my life unfolding. I have worried enough for the next two lifetimes at least 😂

Now it’s time to enjoy. Que perfecto! ✨

Hola from Mexico!✨🇲🇽🌞

Here to report I’m still not drinking margaritas but I am unglamorously spending time with the dentist and resting. That adage that says “wherever you go, there you are” rings true right now, & I’m at a point in my life where I’m happy with myself. Just grateful for the opportunity to trust the process of my life unfolding.

Here’s a poem from when I got caught in the rain yesterday. I actually wrote it standing on the sidewalk in the rain 🙂

“Waving from the Next Mountain Over”
By Allie

I see you from a distance,
Struggling uphill.
He can do it, I think to myself.
I know that kind of heart.

I wish I could dance more perfectly.

We are where we are,
The design is flawless.
Look for me sometime,
Waving to you from the next mountain over.

Mexican rain goes straight down.
Intentional, generous, straightforward like
Father Sky showing off for me.
What a Peacock!
The pressure on my throat, my chest clearing,
Like it’s raining inside, too.
I think to myself,
A walk in the Mexican rain is liquid empathy,
How lucky.

The city streets are soapy
The wet air hangs low here,
smells like the Sun’s dirty laundry and human love.

I prayed two hours this morning,
Revive and renew.
Remembering Joy lives underneath
the grit and filth.
Polishing the mirrors of our inner lives,
A Necessary exercise if you’re born human.
Otherwise we might mistake this place for an outhouse, instead of the holiest school for
Becoming
with the best playground in the neighborhood.
A tough and gritty sacred place.

If God owned a gym
Human Struggle would be
Resistance Training for the Human Spirit.
Going towards the Sword or Stone,
Reveling in the Changing Times,
What a relief it’s no longer appropriate
To martyr ourselves for Love.
Progress and evolution at its best,
Acceptance giving way to building our lives anew, because no one can do it for us.

Together Opening the Way,
The Emergence of a Renaissance of the Human Spirit
Just around the corner.
We, the artist and the creators and the lovers and the destroyers.
So keep dancing,
You do it so well.

And remember look for me from time to time,
Waving from the next mountain over.
💜
