I am in Happy Valley, Pennsylvania today.
Semifinals went well at the National Yoga Competition sponsored by . I am ranked 5th coming out of semifinals. Women’s Finals 35-49 yrs will be around 3pm on the USA Yoga YouTube channel.
I am a big proponent of yoga competition. The Latin root of the word “competition” is “competer,” which means— “To strive for a common goal together.”
Isn’t that great? Undistorted, the nature of competition lies in its underlying purpose—WINNING TOGETHER. That was the original purpose of competition. Man, did humans get in there and screw that one up somewhere along the way… but I think maybe we will make a comeback. I’m hopeful. And hope is an important thing to keep alive these days.
The actual outcome (of any goal) is much less significant than what we learn along the way. This is something one could only know by doing the thing.
I really appreciate and all my competitor friends—it takes guts, heart, a willingness to be vulnerable to get up there. There’s really nowhere to hide when you’re balancing on one leg in a leotard, on a stage & being judged on your every move. It’s a mental-physical-physiological challenge that requires a leap of faith & the willingness to just go for it. And the best part is, we win in this mainly just by showing up and doing our best. The real treasure chest is the storehouse of benefits we accrue as a result of our dedicated daily practice. Having a signpost like this is so good— moving forward with concrete goals is an important part of individual progress. Thank you again to USA Yoga for being an awesome container for our development. What a wonderful opportunity! 🙌🪷🧘♀️
