I hope this video helps if you are a prospective client or someone interested in getting into yoga. That said, the primary reason I’m posting today is for my fellow teacher and wellness friends.

Are you a yoga teacher or experienced yoga practitioner looking to deepen your understanding? I’m seeking other experienced teachers and providers open to higher standards so we can together unite as co-leaders and bring the therapeutic benefit of this yoga back into the conversation with real solutions and techniques.

I was practicing the advanced series after teaching class the other day in St. John’s.

I guess I forgot to flip the camera, so I ended up recording part of my practice in the mirror reflection.

My very first mentor in the yoga was Ted. Those of you from the older days remembers Ted. He healed his own body thru the practice of Bikram yoga coming out of a motorcycle accident. He was the kind of teacher who was able to have more faith in me than I had in myself at the time. Ted showed real proof. He used the yoga to heal and change his life. Because of this, his depth of understanding of the human body’s capacity to heal was second-to-none.

Ted used to call the mirror in his studio, “The Cosmic Mirror.” People lined up around the building to take his class. Ted taught from the heart and a deep love and reverence for his students. To this day, I count my lucky stars for his generosity of spirit and influence.

I don’t really know where I’m going with this. I was going to discard this video but I like it. It’s real. This is often how we operate now..demonstrating in isolation, projecting an image that is designed to pull the viewer’s senses from within him or herself into our world.

It’s a good tool, and I love the video because it’s unexpected and kind of breaks the fourth wall.

It also makes me want to encourage a real revival of the energy of “Everybody Together.” That’s the opening line of the dialogue.

Being together is important.

For you all who are new to my account— Hello 👋 & Hooray🎉 for new followers! I’m looking forward to connecting with you soon.

Immersed in yoga & functional movement for over two decades and teaching for 17 years, I still love what I do. I love the bonds of friendship I am able to build through the wonderful strategy of Hatha Yoga—with myself & others. When we are each enabled to take complete responsibility for our own health, wellbeing, and happiness—the most wonderful things spring forth in from our lives and the environment . I had an older gentleman client who used to offer his expertise in business, out of the pure joy of wanting me to succeed in life outside the yoga studio. He’d say-“Allie, Life is about relationships.” Heart of a real yogi right there…he was one who found the yoga later in life.

My relationship with myself coming out of college was not emotionally healthy. I had to learn and integrate a strategy for channeling my passion &energy into something creative & constructive. This translated to teaching the same therapeutic system that I used to help me re-organize the internal workings of my physiological makeup, so I could become someone who is able to support others.

Sharing this video to show how I help myself so you are hopefully inspired to join me! Most of my clients practice with me to heal on the physical level, so here’s what this looks like in real time for me.

I injured my lower back on leg day at the gym a few years ago. The injury hung on, got better with regular practice & the support of my chiropractor friend. Although it was improving, it changed the relationship of my hips, adductors & SI joints. After 3 years of consistent practice, it cleared up. I was overjoyed.

It recently flared up again, reminding me that healing is like peeling away the layers of an onion. You have to stick with it to get to the juicy part. It’s common to get discouraged with the process in our “Have it Your Way” culture.

Don’t give up! There’s a lot of light ahead.

Happy Love Day, Everybody!

Who needs flowers for Valentine’s Day when you spend your days in The City of Roses?! 🌹

Did you know the meaning of “Yoga” in Sanskrit is “Union,” or “to yoke”? As many people choose to “yoke” themselves to another person in marriage or partnership, always remember the most important union is the one inside of YOU
❤️ 🧡 💛 💚 💙 💜 🤍

Cultivating an actual garden of thriving human beings means making sure we are taking personal responsibility to take action in the direction of love for ourselves first. Then only can we truly be able to share our gifts with others.

I recently posted a Maya Angelou interview in my stories where she spoke about only trusting people who love themselves. I really needed to hear that one. It hits home in a big way for me right now.

It’s important right now, in these times, in this socioeconomic-political climate to continue to point ourselves and other people back in the direction of their own lives as the priority—regardless of circumstances. Only when we take care & love ourselves first—when we fill our own cup, then only can we extend ourselves to other in a way that is sustainably positive, healthy, and meaningful for everybody involved.

Life is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy and share love with others in our many different relationships, so I hope you guys are focusing on that part—rather than what you feel might be missing.

If you feel like something is missing, that’s okay too. Just come to yoga! You will see in due time that everything you will ever need to be happy and in love is already inside you. The tightness, tension, stress energy, emotional debris just has to be released so you can see it and feel it for yourself. Then everything else is just icing on the cake.

Have your cake and eat it too, I say!

Little video from early morning last week when I was waiting for a client. It’s a good message so I figure it’s a post-worthy snippet.

In addition to my yoga clients, I’ve been working with personal training clients for the past year or so. I use the functional biomechanics toolbox* I teach (the yoga still is my primary movement strategy), now translating the techniques to working under load. The yoga and functional strength training compliment one another beautifully. Application of the biomechanics content works great in a training setting. Want to build a friendship & better bone density at the same time? Look no further 😉🧘‍♂️💪

New clients—come give it a try! Assessment is free. My plan for Tuesday & Thursday afternoons recently fell through, so I have more availability than I thought. I guess my door wants to be open so feel free to reach out 🙂

I’m moving tomorrow. Not far—about a mile away. I’m packing up my books right now. I was reveling at the sheer quantity of journals(some are pictured, here). I’ve been looking through them. They’re full of notes from from various trainings or self study, but what I’m noticing mostly is that they’re mostly filled with prayers & intentions I’ve set, specific goals I’ve made, determinations to change challenging relational experiences into beneficial experiences for me and whoever was involved.

When I was way younger, I remember making the determination to live a life of no regrets. It was the basis of summoning the kind of grit that was required to do the really hard work in the beginning at the height of my struggles in the eating disorder days when the emotional pain I experienced on a daily basis was at its peak. I look back on that young woman version of myself & I am so proud of her for the choices she made to change herself when daily life had become an exercise in human suffering.

I’m getting all teary-eyed as I write this. I feel like calling back at her through space and time to cheer her on, because I remember how important it was to have those voices and support around me as I did that work, day after day & year after year.

The orange journal☝️ was the one I kept when I was in India last. I continued my studies in yoga therapy and I took Sanskrit from an Indian professor & I traveled by myself for 7 months, as a single woman. I did it because I knew it was the next right thing to do. Looking back I think, “wow! The courage I demonstrated and the willingness to jump in with both feet & trust my inner compass… it pays off down the road!”

As I get older, I feel myself calming down. My focus is shifting and my edges are softening like Velveteen Rabbit energy. I understand myself more and I’m more at peace than I have ever been. I know I have former self to thank. Although I’m feeling more relaxed and sure-footed, I am more resolved than ever to continue challenging myself for the sake of sustaining & maintaining a youthful heart.

Here’s to my big, beautiful stack of journals continuing to grow as I do.

Checking in on the one and only…Jerry the Rockstar.

Jerry is off to a great start in his 6th of consistent yoga practice. We’ve been working together since the beginning and this man is wonderful model for one of Bikram’s (founder of the Bikram yoga system, also often called the Original 26&2) well known sayings—

“Never too old, never too late, never too sick to start from scratch once again.”

One time I told Jerry we should get him a cape (Superman reference).

To which he responded , “Mild mannered Statistician by Day…”

I can always count on Jerry to humor the yoga teacher 😁… And truly—this guy has done so well to prove what human beings can do with this wonderful movement strategy & correct technique. Dr. Jonathan (one of my original employers who mentored me for working in Healthcare) told him to come see me to help with the stubborn pain in his middle back. He has faithfully cultivated a consistent home practice and kept up with his weekly sessions since I started my one-on-one yoga business(when not hiking in beautiful faraway places or with family 🤠🏔️🌵🌊✨).

Jerry has lost weight, gained so much flexibility and mobility…and his ability to connect to his body and take responsibility for his own health & wellbeing is downright remarkable. He has come so far.

Night & day difference from when he started. His birthday is coming up in a few days. We were talking yesterday about how he’s clearly physically younger than he was when he started practicing.

Happy 70th birthday, Jerry. Enjoy your king crab at the coast with your wonderful wife. You deserve it! Here’s to many more years of health, happiness, and trusting the process to you, sir. Way to keep the faith with the spirit of never giving up 🫡 🧘‍♂️ 💪

Hi Everyone! Checking in with you all. Holy cow, the past few months have been hitting the pavement, creative process at work, navigating the changing times and working to be the best version of myself in a consciousness climate that is…whoa momma…yeah, it’s a little intense these days out here in the Wild West.

I don’t know that I’ve ever felt more challenged in the sweetest, toughest, and grittiest of ways but the feeling that’s growing inside me is one of the deepest reverence for this gift of Life. With all the imperfection, I can’t help but continue to come back around to total awe in the perfection of its design. I know there people out there really struggling right now. I’m praying for folks’ hearts to open and for healing on every level so we can come together here on the ground level to have good conversations and really unite. To see our communities reach new heights in our regard and care for the people around us is on my heart —and I’m moving forward in my daily life to contribute in the ways I can to see to it that the changes are realized in my lifetime. I really don’t know a better way to spend my days.
