Almost everyone agrees that a “Whole Foods” diet is superior to one of processed foods. Most people think of whole grains, beans, fruits & vegetables when they think “Whole Foods,” but somewhere in our psyche we’ve dismissed the yolk in the egg & the skin on the chicken.

No indigenous people ate protein without fat. Ever. Fats were prized, not only for their energy content, but for the fat soluble vitamins that are better than gold and essential for health. Most Americans are deficient in the fat soluble vitamins - A, D, E, and K. They are found in abundance in animal foods. For example:
🩸1 cup of cow or pig’s blood contains 4,000IU of Vitamin D
🍣3.5oz Chum salmon contains 1,300IU vitamin D
🥚2 chicken eggs (from hens who spend time in the sun) contains 120 IU vitamin D
🦃3.5oz turkey liver contains 75,000IU vitamin A
🧀3.5oz hard goat cheese contains 1745IU vitamin A
🥛1 cup whole milk (from grass fed cows) contains 249IU vitamin A

Traditional diets were rich in animal foods, and prized the most nutritious fats & organs. You don’t have to drink blood, but do consider eating the skin on your chicken, the fat on your steak, the yolk in your eggs, whole fat dairy exclusively, and if you eat an organ meat or shellfish now and then your body will thank you!

Focus. Concentration. Thinking. All essential elements of being successful at school, whether in a classroom or at home!

My (Dr. Rebecca Zeff) husband is a high school teacher, so I get first hand reports on how students are doing and many are simply unable to focus. Many high schoolers start the day with an energy drink or a bag of chips and nothing else. I, myself, am unable to think if I don’t have level blood sugar, and how do we get that? By eating nutrient-dense meals with FAT and PROTEIN 🥓🍳🧈🥛🧀 💛!
If you have a developing human in your life, anywhere between infancy & adulthood, remember that they need good nutrition to be successful, and they probably can’t provide it for themselves! Even if they look like an adult on the outside. 🙂
