Simply drinking water does NOT fix spinal issues; they are compressed and have lost the fluid between the vertebrae.
How much water should you drink? ❄️
⚠️ WHY SPINAL HYDRATION IS IMPORTANT ⚠️
🛑 The center of your intervertebral discs (called the nucleus pulposus) is 88% type II collagen water
🛑 Reduction in disc hydration results in disc degeneration (a.k.a. Degenerative Disc Disease)
🛑 Spinal discs are avascular and the disc cells depend on diffusion from blood vessels at the disc's margins to supply the essential nutrients. This process requires adequate hydration for optimal hydrostatic pressure
🛑 If the nucleus pulposis (center) of your disc isn't well hydrated, additional pressures are placed on the more fibrous ring, which can lead to disc bulges and herniations
🛑 Spinal disc hydration is facilitated both by exercise and rest
🛑 This hydration of your bones and discs is key for shock absorption
🛑 Lack of water increases your body's inflammatory response
🛑 Lack of water also increases pain sensitivity

This distinguished certification places the Vancouver Disc Center among a select group of clinics nationwide trained to deliver the most advanced, research-backed non-surgical decompression protocols available today.

A Major Milestone in Spinal Decompression Care
North American Medical, developer of the AccuSpina®, was founded on the work of Dr. Norman Shealy, a Harvard-trained neurosurgeon widely regarded as a pioneer in neuromodulation and non-surgical spine therapeutics. Dr. Shealy’s clinical protocols focus on treating:

Back Pain & Constipation: How Vancouver Disc Center Helps You Fix Both by Correcting the Spine and Nervous System

If you’ve ever felt “backed up” while also struggling with back pain, you’re not imagining the connection. Many patients at Vancouver Disc Center report digestive trouble alongside lower-back discomfort—and there’s a real, anatomical reason why.

Yes, back pain can cause constipation.
Your spine, nerves, posture, and daily movement patterns all play influential roles in how efficiently your digestive system functions. When the spine isn’t working correctly, your gut often isn’t either.

That’s why at Vancouver Disc Center, Dr. Troy Dreiling—a leader in non-surgical spinal decompression with over 30 years of clinical experience—specializes in evaluating the spine and nervous system to determine the root cause of back pain, nerve irritation, and related bowel dysfunction.

Your Spine Controls Digestion: The Hidden Link Most People Miss
The spine isn’t just structural. It protects the nerve pathways that control nearly every major organ—including your intestines.

When the lower spine isn’t aligned, decompressed, or moving well, the nerves that tell the colon to contract can become irritated or weakened.
Think of your digestive tract like a conveyor belt: if the power supply (your nerves) is disrupted, movement slows… and constipation sets in.

How Back Pain Can Trigger Constipation
Not every episode of constipation is caused by back pain, but the two are strongly linked. Here’s why:

1. Pinched, Stressed, or Irritated Nerves
Conditions such as:
• Herniated or bulging discs
• Spinal stenosis
• Sciatica
• Degenerative disc disease
…can put pressure on the nerves that regulate digestion. When those nerves aren’t firing correctly, the colon doesn’t receive the signals it needs to move waste along.

2. Limited Spinal Joint Movement
When your back hurts, you move less.
Less movement = slower digestion.
Sitting too much or avoiding activity can quickly lead to sluggish bowels.

3. Poor Posture Compresses the Digestive Tract
Back pain often leads to slouching or protective, hunched positions. This can:
• Increase abdominal pressure
• Restrict intestinal movement
• Reduce overall digestive efficiency

4. Medication Side Effects
Many painkillers—especially opioids—significantly slow bowel function.
If your constipation began after starting medication, this could be a major contributor.

Signs Your Back Pain and Constipation Are Connected
You may notice:
• Hard, infrequent, or strained bowel movements
• Abdominal pressure or bloating
• A sense of incomplete emptying
• Achy or radiating lower back pain
• Increased slouching or reduced activity

Recognizing the pattern helps determine the proper treatment—and whether your digestive issue is actually a nerve and spine issue.

Who Is Most Likely to Experience This Spine–Gut Connection?
• Adults over 50
• People with disc herniations or stenosis
• Those on long-term pain medication
• Anyone with vertebral misalignments
• People with sedentary lifestyles
• Pregnant women

If this sounds like you, a spine and nerve system evaluation can be a game-changer.

Simple Ways to Improve Back Pain and Bowel Function -
These strategies help many of our patients:

1. Improve Spinal Movement
Gentle daily movement—even walking—stimulates digestive motion.
At Vancouver Disc Center, we often recommend:
• Targeted mobility work
• Chiropractic adjustments
• Non-surgical spinal decompression to restore nerve flow and support better elimination

2. Fix Your Posture

Using proper lumbar support or posture tools can:
• Reduce intestinal compression
• Improve spinal alignment
• Decrease nerve stress

3. Support Digestion With Smart Nutrition

Focus on:
• Fruits and vegetables
• Legumes and whole grains
• Adequate water intake

Dehydrated fiber can worsen constipation, so hydration is essential.

4. Reevaluate Pain Medications

If painkillers are contributing to constipation, Dr. Dreiling can discuss alternatives.
Some patients benefit from natural support such as:
• Wuji chlorella
• Psyllium fiber
These may aid in more efficient elimination.

5. Use Supportive Bracing When Needed
Knee, lumbar, or posture supports can improve:
• Mobility
• Alignment
• Nerve function
…all of which influence digestive health.

When It’s Time to Get Checked: Why Vancouver Disc Center Is the Place to Start
If your back pain and constipation persist or recur, it’s essential to evaluate the spine, discs, posture, and nervous system—not just the digestive tract.
At Vancouver Disc Center, Dr. Troy Dreiling is widely recognized as:
• A certified spinal decompression specialist
• A provider with 30+ years of experience treating disc and nerve-related conditions
• A leader in non-surgical spinal restoration

He helps identify why the nerves aren’t functioning optimally and what can be done to restore proper movement, alignment, and digestive signaling.

Take the Next Step Toward Relief
If you’re dealing with back pain, sciatica, disc problems—or constipation that doesn’t improve—your spine and nerve system may be the key.

Schedule a complimentary consultation at Vancouver Disc Center to discover what’s causing the issue and what non-surgical treatments can help you feel and function better.

There are the same numbers of qualified and unqualified "professionals" in the medical field as in any other area or industry. However, the most important thing about this discrepancy is which one you choose when considering your personal health.
At Vancouver Disc Center of America, we will not only "talk" to you about your condition and how to possibly remedy it, but we will also SHOW you, step by step, how to identify and deal with it.
It is important that patients be fully informed about what the doctor sees as the problem and the why and how of fixing it.
The patient needs to be an integral part of the decision on how to move forward, finding the most comfortable but effective way of dealing with the illness or hindrance to their well-being and quality of life.
Schedule today and allow Dr. Troy to walk you through one of the best consultations you will experience, based on OVER 30 years of serving and training in medical/chiropractic care.

SNEEZING YOUR HEAD OFF?
https://VancouverDiscCenter.com
How Chiropractic Care May Help -
Improved Immune Function:
Misalignments in the spine can put pressure on nerves, potentially affecting the nervous system and the immune response. Chiropractic adjustments can help restore proper alignment, potentially improving immune function.

Reduced Inflammation:
Allergies often involve inflammation. Chiropractic treatments may help reduce inflammation throughout the body, including in the sinuses, airways, and skin.

Identifying Triggers:
Chiropractors can perform a thorough assessment, including physical exams, health history reviews, and discussions about lifestyle and environment, to identify potential allergens or triggers.

Nervous System Function:
Chiropractic treatments can help restore proper spinal alignment, which may improve nervous system function. This can help the body better manage the immune response to allergens.

Stress Reduction:
Stress can worsen allergy symptoms. Chiropractic care may help reduce stress, which could lead to lower levels of inflammation.

Respiratory Function:
Misalignments in the spine can sometimes restrict the chest and lungs, making breathing difficult. Chiropractic adjustments may help improve respiratory function.

Lifestyle and Dietary Guidance:
Chiropractors may offer lifestyle and dietary suggestions to further support allergy relief.

Some Important Considerations - Not a Cure!
Chiropractic care is not a cure for allergies, but it may help manage symptoms and improve the body's natural response.

Individual Results Vary:
The effectiveness of chiropractic care for allergies can vary from person to person.

Holistic Approach:
Chiropractors often take a holistic approach, considering the whole body and its interconnected systems.

Complementary Care:
Chiropractic care can be used in conjunction with other allergy treatments, such as medication.

Red Light Therapy (RLT), also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or photobiomodulation (PBM), is commonly used to help reduce pain and inflammation, promote healing, and support tissue repair. Here's how it works and how it helps with pain:

What Red Light Therapy Does for Pain Relief:
🔴 Reduces Inflammation
RLT decreases the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress.
This is particularly useful for joint pain, arthritis, and chronic muscle pain.

🔴 Stimulates Cellular Repair
Light in the red and near-infrared spectrum (typically 600–850 nm) penetrates tissues and stimulates mitochondrial activity, increasing ATP production (cell energy), which supports faster healing of damaged tissues.

🔴 Improves Blood Flow
Vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) improves circulation, delivering oxygen and nutrients to affected areas, and flushing out pain-causing waste products.

🔴 Blocks Pain Signals
RLT may modulate the nervous system to reduce pain perception, especially in conditions like neuropathy or post-surgical recovery.

🔴 Accelerates Tissue & Nerve Regeneration
Studies show benefits for soft tissue injuries, nerve pain, and recovery from strains, sprains, or surgeries.

Don't Leave It To "Opinion" - Get It Checked!
This is a common misconception by doctors, PT's, and even chiropractors, who do not extensively deal with severe Spinal Disc problems such as DISC HERNIATIONS , SPINAL STENOSIS or DEGENERATIVE DISCS on a day to day basis. Much of this goes back to what doctors learned in school. If you have leg pain (SCIATICA), you have a disc problem ---- if you do not have leg lain, your disc is not the problem. The same thing can be said of the relationship of the Spinal Disc to low back pain. I actually see a fair number of people who have severe buttock / leg pain, yet have no low back pain whatsoever.

Is it from the Disc, or is it something else?

Just like individual fingerprints, the reality is that no two bodies are exactly the same. Professors present lectures, and text books present anatomical pictures of the way that various structures in the body should look. We know how different people look from one another on the outside. The truth is that because everyone is so different on the inside, nerves are not always found exactly where one would expect them to be. In fact, when it comes to studying human anatomy, anomalies and anatomical variations are the norm. Discs can herniate in any number of common (or very uncommon) patterns. When you throw in the phenomenon of ASYMPTOMATIC HERNIATIONS, the conundrum gets even bigger. You may be starting to understand why back surgeries can be such a crap shoot.
