Friend of VCC Matt Johnson, LPC, CADC II is cohosting a training on Intimate Partner Violence. I've known Matt since we went to grad school together and he has an amazing wealth of information on this topic. The training offers 6 CEUs and discounts are available for BIPOC, military, and student populations.

Intimate Partner Violence is tragically ubiquitous and often camouflaged. Explore clinical and ethical dimensions of addressing it safely.

We skipped Coffee & Community in October because I was out of town at the San Juan Islands. So much incredible natural beauty up there. It was such good food for my soul!

Returning Veterans Project did a lovely write-up on me for their monthly newsletter. It's a great organization and I'm proud to volunteer an hour on my weekly schedule to support veterans in their mental health!

A Therapist’s Small Commitment Makes a Big Impact December 7, 2023 Vancouver Counselor Helps Veterans Heal Beyond Military Service Jennie Hagen’s compassion for those who serve in the military led her to volunteer with the Returning Veterans Project (RVP). Why Vancouver Counseling Center?

Starting your private practice can be daunting! When I opened my practice in 2014, it was the scariest thing I’ve ever done. Taking the leap from my full-time community mental health job into the world of self-employment was immense. Trusting in myself, learning how to run a business, and achieving my ultimate goal of having my own private practice! It was amazing, and all so new.

The moment I knew I could do it was when I toured a therapy center that offered shared offices at an affordable rate. There was flexibility, I could pay my overhead with just one client per week, and there was no long-term contract. I still remember sitting in that office, reeling from the enormity of what I was about to sign up for, but having that quiet confidence that this was right.

Now, 4 years later, my practice is thriving. I’ve been blessed with the chance to open my own counseling center to offer this opportunity to other professionals looking for an approachable way to get their practice started. It’s so meaningful for me to be able to offer this space for other counselors to start or expand their practice.

I believe strongly in the power of counseling to help people and create ripples of good in the world, and I’m honored to hold space for the powerful work we do with our clients. I would love to talk more with you to see if Vancouver Counseling Center feels like the right place to launch or expand your private practice. You can do this!
