Please join us in welcoming Michael Mullarkey, MD, to our Gastroenterology team. Dr. Mullarkey entered medicine to help others and alleviate suffering. He works hard to stay up to date on the latest medical literature and focuses on offering evidence-based care. He believes that communication is key and takes the time to help each patient understand their condition, the purpose of any tests or labs, their treatment plan, and even backup options.

Dr. Mullarkey finds it rewarding to understand the bodily changes that cause GI-related illnesses and to use that information to target key disease pathways, improving patients’ symptoms. He maintains a special interest in treating disorders of the esophagus, including eosinophilic esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and achalasia.

Please join us in welcoming Maria Carparelli, DPT, to our Physical Therapy team. Maria believes in the healing power of human connection through movement. She focuses on specific functional exercises that allow people to do what they love. She guides patients in harnessing the power they already have within themselves to heal.

Maria has expertise in lower extremity orthopedic issues and expanding expertise in pelvic health issues. She creates a safe, comfortable environment for patients experiencing these conditions to receive treatment and finds it incredibly rewarding to help improve their quality of life. She has a special interest in peripartum care and is fascinated by the expanding field of research on athletic peripartum care.

Vancouver Clinic is celebrating a major achievement in surgical innovation—our 1,000th da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery. Dr. Shanan Harkness, OBGYN, reached this milestone when she performed a hysterectomy last week. This accomplishment represents a shift in how surgical care is delivered. Compared with traditional surgery, minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery offers a faster and easier recovery for patients while reducing costs.

"My patients have excellent results, less scarring, and a more comfortable recovery," Dr. Harkness said. "It is gratifying to see them feel better and return to their lives so quickly."

The Vancouver Clinic Surgery Center opened its doors in February 2023. Dr. Leslie Disher performed the first da Vinci surgery—a hernia repair. Since then, physicians from across the organization have offered gallbladder, hernia, and reproductive organ surgeries using this technology.
