Vela Bodywork was born from the idea that the body, in its movement towards health, resembles light — it changes according to what is along its path. Vela’s mission is to provide a clearing in the path, by using a medley of therapies that focus on detoxification, re-balancing fluid systems within the body, and deep, psychosomatic (mind-body) restoration.
Rebecca Yawman, LMT, grew up in southern California and moved to the Pacific Northwest to attend the University of Oregon, where she earned a BS in Psychology. Her interest in health led her to Seattle’s Cortiva Institute, where she studied Massage Therapy and became particularly drawn to the role the nervous system plays in maintaining balance and health in the body. Craniosacral therapy took root as a passion because of its ability to address deeply seated patterns, as well as its positive effects on patient’s rehabilitation from trauma. After graduating from Cortiva’s Professional Massage Therapy program in 2012, Rebecca continued her Craniosacral studies at Bastyr University. She uses the therapy as an integral way to release the body and mind’s chronic patterns and to facilitate healing after acute traumas.
Since 2013, Rebecca has been helping patients at the Sophia Health Institute, an integrative clinic specializing in healing chronic illness associated with Lyme Disease. The clinic is unique for its multi-layered approach to treating patients by addressing the root cause of disease including environmental toxicity, nutrition, genetic susceptibilities and lifestyle. Working with the team at SHI and learning from Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, and Dr. Christine Schaffner, ND, solidified Rebecca’s passion about helping patients through detoxification therapies; she’s seen the difference that lymphatic, craniosacral and abdominal techniques make in upkeeping the health of the immune system, the body’s protector against disease and infection.
