Hormone health certainly affects our pelvic health and the solution is multifaceted.

We are often burning the candle at both ends and then paying the price with excess estrogen and increased PMS symptoms. Seriously not fun.

These lifestyle tips are more for those not taking hormones which make it harder to track and listen to our natural cycles. So if someone IS taking hormones, I would look into the necessity of supplementing with magnesium as well to help your body metabolize the hormones better.

In a world that tells us to go go go, sometimes what our body is asking for is to pause and check in.

Hope this helps. 🥰

Pelvic therapy sessions typically involve an assessment of your condition, manual techniques to improve mobility and flexibility, individualized exercises and activities to help you reach your goals, education on how to prevent further injury or pain, and instruction on proper posture, body mechanics and other lifestyle changes. You should dress in comfortable, loose clothing that allows you to move easily and doesn’t restrict circulation. Depending on your condition, your pelvic therapist may also recommend special shoes or a brace. You should also bring any paperwork related to your medical history, including x-rays, ultrasounds, and doctor’s notes. We're here for you on your health and wellness journey!

SO MUCH JUST HAPPENED TO OUR BODIES in the process of carrying and delivering our baby. Absolutely EVERY body system was altered in the process. Bladder was sat on, bowels were cramped for space (hello constipation), joints were stretched and possibly strained, the pelvis shifted, the back muscles worked overtime to hold us up, neck and upper back gets strained holding our new baby, and let’s talk about that PELVIC FLOOR after delivery or C-SECTION SCAR!

Typically we are given a go-ahead to go back to having s*x and participating in running, crossfit, etc. at our 6 week postpartum visit with our birth provider. But sadly, no assessments are done of our muscles, joints, or core and pelvic floor to determine that we are actually in fact SAFE to go back to these things without significant risk to our healing body.

A thorough POSTPARTUM ASSESSMENT administered by our Pelvic Floor Therapists is both medically justified AND CRUCIAL to ensure the best postpartum recovery.

It's still Pelvic Pain Awareness Month and we are back to remind you that you are NOT ALONE in your pain!

Pelvic pain affects millions of women throughout the US and they often suffer in silence. Not knowing what is wrong, who can help can help, or even talking with a medical provider that is not trained in this issue can result in years of unnecessary and very treatable pain.

Pelvic floor pain can include experiencing pain with s*x, prolonged sitting or standing, bike riding, or the feeling of recurrent UTIs with negative urine cultures. It can also be the source of low back pain when other treatments have failed.

Pelvic Pain Symptoms
Symptoms of pain can include burning or sharp sensations, a chronic dull ache, or sharp, dull, or tearing pain with in*******se. Pelvic floor pain can radiate into the lower abdomen, groin, sacrum, tailbone as well as low back.

Pelvic Pain can be linked to many issues including:

Over-tight pelvic floor muscles

Vulvodynia

Interstitial Cystitis

Endometriosis

Pudendal Nerve distribution pain or Pudendal Neuralgia

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

IBS and other abdominal conditions

Tailbone Pain

Re**al Pain

Pelvic physical therapists commonly see women for pregnancy related issues like back pain, pelvic pain, new onset of bladder leaks, and more. But did you know that one of our superpowers is helping women PREPARE THEIR BODIES FOR BIRTH?!

IT IS TIME for us to EMPOWER our fellow WOMEN so that they feel 100% PREPARED for their births NO MATTER the circumstances.

We have found that an ASSESSMENT early in the 2nd Trimester has been INCREDIBLY VALUABLE to pregnant women in preparing for their birth. We call this BIRTH COACHING.

And the BEST part??

Our pregnant clients are set up for a MUCH better healing journey postpartum, because they have ALREADY learned how to connect to their core and pelvic floor muscles with their breath which is CRUCIAL to heal fully postpartum.

Birth Coaching is ideal for:

First time mothers

Women who would like a successful vaginal birth after c-section

Women looking to prevent re-injury to the pelvic floor

Moms who have already been dealing with pelvic floor issues such as pelvic pain, bladder leaks, or other musculoskeletal issues.

Did you know that it is reported that up to 1 in 5 women will suffer from a maternal mental health disorder like postpartum depression? While 75% percent do not receive any treatment at all which can have negative impacts on yourself and those around you. Maternal Mental Health Disorders can happen prenatally, perinatally, or postpartum. A common misconception is that these disorders dissipate over time; however, some symptoms can last for years after delivery and can begin anytime within the first year postpartum.

Many of the signs of postpartum depression can overlap with postpartum anxiety. It’s common for people with postpartum depression to experience signs of postpartum anxiety though not everyone with postpartum anxiety is depressed.

Postpartum depression is diagnosed when at least 5 depressive symptoms are present for at least 2 weeks:
Depressed mood (subjective or observed) is present most of the day
Loss of interest or pleasure, most of the day
Insomnia or hypersomnia
Psychomotor retardation or agitation
Worthlessness or guilt
Loss of energy or fatigue
Suicidal ideation or attempt and recurrent thoughts of death
Impaired concentration or indecisiveness
Change in weight or appetite (weight change 5% over 1 month)

Postpartum anxiety is associated with:
Excessive or extreme worrying, not with sadness, that feels like it never stops
Excessive worries that are related to the baby, like nursing, feeding, social interactions, or returning to work
Feeling of panic or overwhelm with fearful thoughts
Poor concentration or disrupted sleep
Heart palpitations
Feelings of guilt
Fear of being left alone with baby or fear of leaving baby alone with other family or caregiver

When it comes to maternal mental health disorders, there is absolutely nothing more important than seeking help. We often find people coming into Pinnacle Women’s Therapeutics not knowing where to get help and even embarrassed or fearful to ask for help. There is an abundance of resources available. Holistic Whole Body Healing Starts With Being Able to P**p!

How can we resolve constipation?

1. Hydrate! Dehydration can make constipation much worse. Drinking ½ our body weight in ounces per day is the goal

2. Get Moving. Our gut really needs our body to move to get the gut moving. Regular moderate exercise can really help and this can be anything!

3. Belly breathing is definitely our friend for constipation. It brings our body into the “rest and digest” mode and out of “fight or flight." This can be easily integrated into our daily life by taking slow belly breaths before sleep each night, while driving, or holding our baby.

4. Getting fiber in our diet. We really need fibrous foods that require us to chew. If you find yourself eating meals that don’t require your mouth to work much, you may struggle with constipation.

5. Magnesium can help with both energy as well as with constipation. There are multiple forms of magnesium, so some can be more helpful than others for this purpose. Magnesium citrate or hydroxide are good examples for help with constipation

6. Work with a pelvic PT to be sure you can access all the other ways in which constipation can be resolved!

Our Story

Pinnacle Women’s Therapeutics was born of the desire to be ALL IN for women’s health. To serve and care for the women in our community in a way that was NOT previously available.

Women deserve so MUCH BETTER when it comes to access to holistic women’s and pelvic health care. We deserve to be LISTENED TO, to be EMPOWERED, to have our GOALS appreciated, to be EDUCATED on more than pills and surgery, to NOT be told to just do kegels, and to be VALUED and not treated like a number.

Due to the complex and personal nature of the women’s and pelvic health conditions we treat, we strive to create a stress-free, holistic and positive environment where your therapist will spend 1 hour with you at EVERY visit.

YOUR GOALS are OUR GOALS. We know that life is hectic and stressful and are committed to creating a healing plan that works for YOU and your busy life.
