🎬 Behind the Scenes at More From Life Therapy
Therapy for kids doesn’t always look like therapy.

For many kids, movement helps the brain focus. When we combine play with purpose, we can work on real-life skills in a way that feels successful and motivating.

Every jump, balance step, and matching activity in this motor path has intention behind it — even when it just looks like fun.

This is pediatric occupational therapy in action at More From Life Therapy 💛

If you have a child who struggles with focus, coordination, following directions, or regulation, we’d love to connect.

We all lose our patience sometimes... and it's important for children to understand that it happens all of us. Let them see the imperfect moments -- and, most importantly, teach them how to repair afterwards 🫶

Education saves lives. 💙
This NAA study highlighted an important reality: children with autism go missing under every type of supervision — not just parental care. That’s exactly why ongoing education for teachers, school staff, first responders, camp counselors, social workers, and community members is so critical.

Many still aren’t aware that wandering is common in autism — or that drowning remains the leading cause of death in these cases. Awareness changes response time. Training changes outcomes. Preparation changes lives.

When educators and first responders understand elopement risk and know to , we create safer communities for everyone.

Safety starts with awareness — and continues with action.

🥁 It’s time for OT & Connection @ Home!

This week’s activity is simple, playful, and packed with skill-building.

Draw small “ponds” on a piece of paper and write a number inside each one. Using goldfish crackers as your “fish,” invite your child to:
🐟 Name the number
🐟 Count out the correct number of crackers
🐟 Place the right amount of “fish” in each pond

This activity supports:
• Number recognition
• One-to-one correspondence (counting with accuracy)
• Fine motor strength and coordination (pinching & grasping small items)
• Visual attention

And of course… connection. 💚

Not quite at your child’s level? No problem — you can always modify.

🌱 For Emerging Skills:
•Remove the numbers and simply practice moving the crackers into the ponds.
•Focus on pinching one cracker at a time using thumb + fingertips.
•Sing a favorite song (Slippery Fish, Bubble Bubble Pop!, etc.) while moving the “fish” to build rhythm and engagement.
•Use hand-over-hand support as needed.

🌊 For More of a Challenge:
•Add larger numbers.
•Have your child roll a die and place that many fish in a pond.
•Use tweezers or tongs instead of fingers to increase fine motor demand.
•Add simple math: “There are 2 fish in this pond. Add 3 more. How many now?”
•Make it timed for older kids who enjoy a race element.

Simple materials. Big skill-building.
And bonus? Snack at the end. 😉

“What can occupational therapy actually help with?”

Not just handwriting.
Not just fine motor.
Not just sensory processing.

We help with THIS. 👇
The screaming.
The hitting.
The collapse on the floor.
The “I can’t handle this” moments.

Because emotional regulation is a skill — not a personality trait.

And skills can be taught.
