In Vedic astrology there is a lunar zodiac called the Nakshatras. The nakshatras divide into 27 lunar 'mansions' and underlie the 12 constellations. Currently, Rahu (solar eclipse) and Ketu (lunar eclipse) are in the Nakshatras of Ardha (Gemini) and Mula (Sagittarius) which are where the December 2019 eclipses occurred across east Asia and China. The last time the 'Nodes" (which are what Rahu and Ketu together are called) where in the position where they are now....was 18 years ago. 18 years is a full cycle and called a Nodal return. There is also a half-cycle of the Nodes. The half-cycle occurred 9 years ago. What happened in the world and in your personal life 18 years ago? On Tuesday, January 16th at 6:17 pm pst there will be a New Moon in Uttara Ashadha nakshatra. Uttara Ashadha is symbolized by the tusk of an elephant. The tusk belongs to Ganesha, who used it as a pen to write the Mahabharata. The period before the New Moon for one day, as well as the day of the New Moon, is not a good time to begin important projects. However, the following month will be generally beneficial for all types of ambitious endeavors. The shakti of Uttara Ashadha is the power to create an unstoppable victory, making that month good for removing obstacles, and achieving goals. So, you might want to ride this nice wave of productive energy and "make hay" as the moon waxes towards full!

There will be a full moon Sept 6th at 12:03am pst in the Shatabhisha nakshatra. The shakti of Shatabhisha is the power of healing, which makes this a good time to roll out your yoga routine and stick with your diet. Shatabhisha, in Sanskrit, can be translated as "wine", so this is a good time to ratchet down your desire to imbibe and sit up and howl at the moon. The Moon will be in the opposite sign to stationary Mercury and transiting Mars, giving the 24 hour period on either side of the full moon a distinctly feisty quality. So it is probably a good idea to keep a low profile on this one, and avoid serious discussions about religion, politics, and anything else that riles you up.

As an indicator for world events, it is worth noting that the buildup to this full moon has been marked by the North Korean nuclear tests. On that level, it tends to aggravate international and political conflicts of various types for about a month.

Every combination in astrology is good for some things and bad for others. This one is good for healing, technology, cultivating detachment, striking productive agreements in various relationships, and for the spiritual process in general. Keep your mind on those things, and the other stuff won’t bother you.

Mercury and the Eclipse

Mercury has been retrograding for the past few weeks. It finally will go direct on September 5th. Although this is a fairly common occurrence, this time Mercury will be turning around right on the point of the August 21st Solar Eclipse. From September 1st until September 9th, it will be within one degree of the eclipse point, and will be exactly on that point on September 2nd and September 7th. Sometimes, when a planet transits over an eclipse point after the eclipse, it acts to trigger the effects of the eclipse. Mercury is communication, information, education, and the intellect. It also represents any type of information technology, such as computers, phones and the internet.

In general, the period from September 2nd to the 9th could produce complicated or intense communication. This period can be used in a positive way to gather information and to reflect on, or to edit, existing information. It is not a great time for beginning important projects that are related to information or communication, or to sign new agreements or contracts. It is a good time for reading or discussing anything connected with the past, or for delving deeper in the spiritual realm.
