Joanie earned her MA in Forensic Psychology in 2013 from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. There, she learned to focus on such underlying issues as anxiety and depression; phobias or fears; grief and loss; dissatisfaction with work; intr**ersonal and interpersonal relationships; body image and spirituality.
For more than 15 years, Joanie has brought a compassionate, intuitive approach to her calling as a clinical therapist. A gifted intuitive and humanitarian, Joanie strives to create a calm, safe space for clients to work through unresolved issues. Using a holistic mental health approach (mind, body, spirit), she helps clients uncover, articulate and release the sources of their presenting problems. This form of integrative psychotherapy teaches clients to connect to their own intuition and evolve into their true essence.
After 10 years specializing in trauma and addiction treatment, she recently served as Intensive Outpatient Coordinator for Addiction for a residential facility focused on treating formerly incarcerated women. In 2021, she began practicing trauma-informed Intuitive Therapy remotely via Zoom or Skype. Joanie is also trained in creative expression/art therapy and Reiki. She moderates art therapy, creative expression, mindfulness/meditation, and addiction recovery groups. Her background also includes public speaking, peer counseling, victim advocacy, domestic violence and r**e crisis counseling. Most recently, she joined Solstice Health and Wellness, moderating aftercare group therapy for addiction treatment.
Joanie is currently developing a portfolio of work as an artist, writer and subject matter expert. During the pandemic crisis, she created 13 paintings that she calls The Goddess Series--each representing a different facet of her personality. She is currently working on her life project--a book about mental health, addiction, trauma and the societal stigmas associated with it. As part of this process, she contributed as a guest speaker to a podcast about trauma/mental health and su***de. She also participated in a documentary about demonstrating empathy during the existing pandemic.
