FOOD TOXICITY
WHAT
🍔We live in a world where we find more processed foods than fresh foods. While it is hard to avoid such foods, it is always a good idea to look into the ingredients to better navigate your food options!
🍔These are just a FEW of the toxic ingredients that are added to food
HOW
🍟Monosodium Glutamate (MSG): Sodium salt from glutamic acid which enhances flavor. Studies have linked MSG to headaches, obesity, CNS disorder, liver damage, etc.
—> Found in a lot of Asian cuisine, frozen foods, salty snacks
🍟High Fructose Corn Syrup: Artificial sweetener derived from GMO corn. Linked to obesity, diabetes, inflammation, and other chronic illnesses
—> Found in sodas, candies, juice, etc.
🍟Trans Fat: AKA Hydrodenated oil. Hydrogen is added to vegetable oil, which converts the liquid to solid fat. This increases the shelf life of the products. Trans fat increases LDL (bad cholesterol), increases risk of heart disease, inflammation, and can lead to diabetes
—> Found in biscuits, popcorn, baked goods, margarine, fried foods, etc.
🍟Artificial Flavors and Colors: Chemicals to mimic flavors and brighten the color of the foods. It clearly says artificial which means, it is not natural for our bodies. Increases symptoms in kids with ADHD, cause allergic reactions, abdominal pain, and even has carcinogenic properties
—> Found in candies, chips, baked goods (especially cakes), juice, etc.
🍟Sodium Nitrate: Used as a preservative especially in meats to stop bacterial growth as well as enhancing the color. When the nitrate is exposed to heat, it can turn into nitrosamine (negative impact on the body). Linked to different types of cancer, and thyroid issues
—> Found in many processed foods and meats
🍟Refined Vegetable Oil: This includes; corn, soybean, peanut, cottonseed, canola, etc. They can be high in Omega 6 which can lead to inflammation, heart disease, cancer, etc.
—> Found in chips, processed foods, bread, baked goods, etc.
