The Grande Fire is burning in a remote area south of Uncle Sam Mountain, approximately 12 miles north of Colville. The fire was initially reported on August 25, growing to several acres in size in rugged terrain and within mistletoe fir. Hand crews and dozers were able to line the fire with indirect or direct line. On August 27th, a new spot fire jumped the line to the south, increasing the acreage to approximately 22 acres.
Yesterday, crews continued to mop up further interior of the fire line increasing containment. Gridding and patrolling operations continued in preparation for an infrared team to locate any additional hot spots within the fire perimeter starting this week.
Today, crews will continue mopping up the interior of the fire. Infrared operations will begin around perimeter to extinguish any heat within 100 feet of the fire line. Crews will also continue to grid throughout the entirety of the fire in conjunction with the infrared crew. Crews will continue these operations until the end of shift on 9/2 to then be placed into patrol status in conjunction with the local district.
Evacuations: No evacuations are in effect for this area.
Weather: High 92/Low 64. Clouds will be clearing out early Monday morning with warm and dry conditions settling in for the afternoon. Winds on Monday will start off light and increase slightly up the drainage as general winds align. Windspeed and direction will be similar to what occurred Sunday. Winds will be lighter on Tuesday. Temperatures will continue to warm Tuesday into the week with low afternoon humidity. Overnight humidity recoveries within thermal belts above the valley floors.
