Food for Thought…
One of my admired and trusted teachers always told his students… including me… never run away from something you don’t want… always walk toward the kind of person you would like to be…
From a Daoist perspective, the wisdom of “never run away from something you don’t want… always walk toward the kind of person you would like to be” beautifully reflects the principle of living in harmony with the Dao…
Daoism teaches that resistance and struggle arise when we act from fear, aversion, or striving…
Running away from something strengthens the very force we oppose, binding us to it energetically…
By contrast, gently walking toward a state of greater harmony… without force or tension… aligns us with the Dao’s natural unfolding…
The Daoist sage practices wu wei, often translated as effortless or non-coercive action…
This is not inaction, but action that arises from inner stillness and clarity rather than from fear or reaction…
When one moves toward one’s true nature with calm intention, each step expresses congruence with the Way…
One does not reject or flee the “unwanted,” but allows it to dissolve naturally as attention turns toward balance and authenticity…
In Daoist cultivation, transformation occurs organically, the way winter transforms into spring… quietly, inevitably, and without struggle…
My teacher’s advice mirrors this natural process… by focusing on embodying one’s higher self, discord fades of itself…
The more one chases or rejects, the more turbulence arises; the more one moves with awareness and sincerity, the more harmony emerges…
Walking toward the kind of person we aspire to be is, in Daoist terms, returning to our ziran… our innate naturalness…
It is not about self-improvement driven by willpower, but about uncovering what is already whole within…
The Daoist path encourages trust in the inner current rather than resistance to obstacles…
Thus, rather than running away from darkness, one walks steadily toward light, embodying simplicity, presence, and peace with each effortless step along the Way…
Have you ever run away? Instead of walking toward?
All the Best!
