SAGE (Salvia officinalis) essential oil is an oil I come back to again and again.
It’s wonderful for easing stiffness and aching in muscles and joints as it helps reduce inflammation (it’s in our foot balm and gardener’s balm).
On the skin, it helps calm itching and irritation, heal small cuts or burns, and is especially helpful if your skin tends to break out.
Aromatically, sage brings clarity. It helps shake off fatigue, clears mental fog, and supports focus and memory when your mind feels scattered or tired.
I LOVE its scent. However, not all sage essential oils smell alike or have exactly the same properties. When selecting sage essential oil, know that there are other SAGE essential oils out there:
Clary Sage — Salvia sclarea
Balancing (including hormones), calming, and emotionally supportive.
Spanish Sage — Salvia lavandulifolia
Gentle, clear, supportive of memory and breath.
White Sage — Salvia apiana
Very strong, traditionally used for energetic cleansing. Use with extreme caution around children and pets. This one is a powerhouse!
If you love gardening or the outdoors in general, there are actually over 900 species of sage in the world… in California alone, there are 18 or 19 species of native sage!
