Pediatric care is one of Dr. Fisher's passions. As such, we are always thrilled to be able to volunteer time to get into the community and help children who may not have reliable access to care.

School nurse Erin Gornall said the Ohio Department of Health mandates vision screenings for children every other year after kindergarten. The exams identified dozens of students potentially in need of glasses throughout the district.

We have some exciting things in store! As a high ranking member of the Technologic Optometric Association (TOA), Dr. Fisher has been chosen to participate in a trial study of Apple's newest device. The Apple iSee is an Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) similar to a cataract implant. Dr. Fisher will be one of 100 qualified Optometrists across the nation to try this new IOL. The test group will have their dominant eyes' lens replaced with the Apple iSee implant, and monitored for a six month period. In this time frame Dr. Fisher will be putting the IOL through rigorous performance measures. Anticipated capabilities include being able to fully sync to all of your existing Apple devices, utilizing the standalone app. Need to know how to get to the Museum? Apple Maps will overlay the IOL and direct you where you are going through your own eye! Bored in a meeting? Apple TV can play your favorite show right in front of you with no one knowing!

Once the six month period is over Erie Shores Eye Care will be open as a Beta Satellite Testing Center, with Dr. Fisher monitoring five local participants for an additional six month time frame. This means five lucky patients of ours will have the opportunity to be one of the first in the nation to have this advanced technology right at their fingertips, or should we say within their sight!

Subjects must be 18 years or older and will have to be assessed prior to approval to ensure the best eye health possible.

Have you ever heard of Alport Syndrome? Its a genetically inherited condition in which your kidneys produce collagen proteins incorrectly, which damages the filtration ability of the kidneys.

This will be Dr Fisher’s final installment as she is switching over to a bi-monthly blog on our websites www.comeandseeourdifference.com and www.erieshoreseyecare.net. For 2025 we are going to increase messaging, scheduling, account payment portal and dry eye and contact lens retail store. For this month’s article we will be focusing on the medications in eyecare that are in the final phase of FDA approval and will be available to patients in 2025….
