On National Overdose Awareness Day, we want you to know that you aren’t alone. Navigating the grief of losing someone you love to an overdose can be a difficult process and there is no time limit for healing. It’s important to remember that overdose is preventable and if you are in need of resources, we are here to help.

Today, we remember every life lost to overdose. Every name is a story. Every story matters.

This day is for remembrance—but also for action. Let’s talk openly about substance use, end stigma, and advocate for compassionate, evidence-based care.

At StepOne Service, we understand that every situation has its own complexity and every patient has a story. We understand the unique barriers that women face when seeking and accessing treatment and we want you to know you aren’t alone 🖤

Today, we honor the generations of women who’ve fought—and continue to fight—for equality, safety, and the right to be heard. At StepOne Service, our care is gender-responsive, trauma-informed, and rooted in equity. Together, let’s build a world where equality is a reality.

There is a BIG GAP and unmet need in treatment. Among the 39.6 million adults with an SUD who did not receive treatment, 94.7% did not even believe they needed it. Only 5.3% had a perceived unmet need, and just 0.5% actively sought care.

StepOne Service is here to provide awareness, education and care—to fill the gaps in our communities with medically assisted programs.

Having an understanding of the unknown components of the current drug supply can help save lives.

Having an understanding of the unknown components of the current drug supply can help save lives.

BTMPS is rapidly emerging as a common adulterant in the illicit drug supply. It is an invisible, tasteless and odorless industrial cheimal used to stabilize plastics, adhesive and coatings—never intended for human consumption. BTMPS is found in products marketed as fentanyl, sometimes in higher concentrations than the actual opioid.

Traditional drug testing methods may not detect BTMPS, and its effects on humans are not well studied or understood. Remember that when illicit fentanyl is used, multiple adulterants could be present—often without the patient’s knowledge. If you use, test your supply. Don’t use alone. Know the signs. Spread the word.

The language that we use matters. Using supportive, understanding, and person first language is key.

The language that we use matters. Using supportive, understanding, and person first language is key.

In recovery, language matters—and so does our response when someone uses again.

A lapse is a short return to substance use. A relapse usually means a longer pattern. Why this matters: Calling a lapse a relapse can make people feel like they’ve failed—but they haven’t. A lapse might be part of the process.

Recovery is not a straight line—it's a journey. When people stumble, choose language that supports and not shames the individual.

We have a new location!

StepOne Service at Mission Regional Medical Center in Mission, TX is now accepting patients. We are honored to expand our reach and support individuals in South Texas who are struggling with Substance Use Disorder.

The StepOne Service™ is an inpatient, hospital-based, three-to-five-day acute withdrawal management service for adults who require medical management of withdrawal symptoms from alcohol or opioids. The self-referral service is provided in a local hospital setting in partnership with Evergreen Healthcare Partners, LLC.

The StepOne Service™ is available to adults who are in the impending or early stages of acute withdrawal at the time of their voluntary admission to the hospital. The goal is to medically assist them through the withdrawal process and help navigate the transition to an appropriate level of community-based addiction treatment that can address the underlying causes of substance use disorder.

If you or someone you know needs help, call 956-224-9240 to speak with our Service Coordinator, Priscilla Sauceda.
