What’s the hype … Ashwagandha?
We have heard about this supplement over the past few years - curing anxiety , helping sleep, and helping overall wellness in all aspects. So what are some facts about it ?
This is actually a shrub that grows in Asia and Africa, popular in auryevedic medicine . Studies have shown that the withanolides and alkalides may help with stress , inflammation , and sleep patterns. One thing to keep in mind is that theses herbal supplements are not FDA approved. There are cases of acute liver failure and organ damage that may occur - depending on the exact metabolites of the supplement and where it is obtained from. As with all medications - caution should be used before using , and a risk / benefit profile should be looked at with a medical provider.
