Created by Chuck Duff, Thai Bodywork is two-fold in that it
provides a deeply relaxing experience for the client, while also
providing beneficial therapeutic treatment. Thai Bodywork
stretches and retrains muscle fibers that have become
dysfunctional and cause pain patterns in the body. Thai Bodywork
is a modality based on traditional Thai Massage methods, but also
includes the most effective modern western clinical techniques. These techniques include components of massage to help relax
tension and tightness in the muscle, compression techniques,
movement therapy, trigger point therapy, stretching of the
muscles and tendons, traction, and stretching and opening of the
joints. Typical massage sessions usually do not have lasting
affects for the client, where as Thai Bodywork progressively
improves the participant’s state of health with each session by
increasing their flexibility, releasing stagnant energy, improving
blood flow and reintroducing nutrients to the joints, muscles, and
skin. Q. What is the first session like? A. In the first session, clients will fill out paperwork to give the practitioner an idea of their concerns, background, and current state of health. The practitioner will then discuss the paperwork, give an overview of the session, and answer any questions the client may have. Your initial session is used as a full body analysis to determine what specific areas of your body that have become dysfunctional and/or causing pain . The practitioner accomplishes this by using a Thai Bodywork sequence that will systematically assess the clients needs starting with the feet and progressively working towards the head. The body work is done on a Thai mat especially made for Thai bodywork that rests on padded ground. The room is dimly lit with background music to provide a deeply relaxing experience. After the first session, the practitioner devises a customized sequence for the client’s future visits. Although Thai Bodywork sessions are mostly physically passive for the client, there is consistent breath work and times when the client will need to contract and release muscles. These components of Body work are very effective for retraining muscle fibers and stretching the muscle. The practitioner may also use heated herbal compresses or a hand held muscle stimulator. What should I wear? Thai Body Work sessions always require clothing. Dark, comfortable, and stretchy clothing is best. The less clothing the client is comfortable wearing, the easier it is for the practitioner. Ideally, shorts and tank tops for women and shorts for men. If herbal applications are used, they may stain light clothing, so dark clothing is highly recommended. What types of results can I expect from my session? Patients are often given misleading, incorrectly established medical diagnoses for their pain which imply that effective treatment is either impossible or requires invasive procedures. Thai bodywork sessions are non invasive and have many therapeutic benefits for our clients. Although results vary case by case, here is a small sampling of conditions for which we have had excellent results using Thai Bodywork techniques:
Shoulder pain, frozen shoulder, headache, knee pain, hip pain, hamstring pain and tightness, sciatica, tendonitis, carpal tunnel thoracic outlet syndrome, degenerative disk disease, herniated disks, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, chronic low back pain, radiculopathy, torn rotator cuff, torn meniscus, torn labrum, heel pain, tennis elbow and literally hundreds more. If you are not specifically experiencing acute or chronic pain, Thai Bodywork can also provide a relaxing experience that relieves tension and stress in the mind and body. Thai Body work is also beneficial for improving athletic performance, relieving over worked muscles, and preventing injury during athletic activity. Who should receive Thai Bodywork?
