Illinois Society of Eye Physicians & Surgeons ISEPS serves the total visual health care needs of the people through public and professional education, membership services, and legislative advocacy.

The Illinois Society of Eye Physicians & Surgeons is committed to maintaining the quality and accessibility of medical and surgical eye care in our state. Toward that end, we believe that surgical procedures in and around the eye should be performed only by qualified medical doctors -- ophthalmologists -- who have completed medical school and an ophthalmology residency. Non-physicians, such as optometrists, have a place in the eye care delivery system. But that does not include performing surgical procedures or advanced medical care. As part of our legislative duties, we support or fight bills that affect Illinois ophthalmological health care. For example, HB 6166 and SB 2899 were introduced in February '16. These bills ostensibly are the regular "sunset renewal" of the Optometric Practice Act, but in fact they remove the longstanding prohibition of optometrists performing surgical procedures. It also adds authority for optometrists to administer medications by injection in or around the eye.

We are so proud of our friend and colleague, Dr. Bui Thi Van Anh, for this remarkable achievement!

Dr. Bui Thi Van Anh has been honorably selected as one of the 10 outstanding Young Vietnamese Physicians for the 11th time, thanks to her remarkable contributions to professional work and volunteer activities at the Quang Tri Eye Hospital. She has played a significant role in implementing many new techniques, improving the quality of medical examination and treatment for local people. In addition, Dr. Van Anh actively participates in scientific research with numerous valuable projects and is enthusiastic in community volunteer activities. Dr. Bui Thi Van Anh's dedication and achievements are a source of inspiration and pride for the young Vietnamese medical sector. CDF is proud to be working with her for the last 10 years.

We are very proud to partner with the Community Development Fund in Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. These projects have greatly advanced the availability and quality of eye care for residents of these Central Vietnam communities.

Improving Eyecare through Technology! 💻

In May 2025, Quang Tri Eye Hospital and Trieu Phong Medical Center will receive 21 computers to enhance their eyecare data management systems. This exciting initiative, funded by IGOF, is designed to improve service efficiency and ensure better care for those in need. 👓

By integrating technology into healthcare, we're helping these facilities streamline operations and provide more effective, timely support to the communities they serve.
