This week, WGH had the opportunity to participate in Shattered Dreams, a citywide emergency response drill designed to strengthen communication, coordination, and collaboration among multiple agencies throughout Vernon.

Exercises like these are incredibly important, as they allow emergency personnel to test response protocols, improve teamwork, and identify opportunities for growth in a controlled environment. By working together through realistic scenarios, we help ensure our teams are prepared to respond quickly, efficiently, and compassionately when real emergencies happen.

At WGH, we are proud to partner with our local emergency responders, schools, and community organizations to support preparedness efforts that ultimately help keep our community safe.

This past week, Wilbarger General Hospital celebrated its employees during Hospital Week โ€” a time to recognize and appreciate the incredible people who make compassionate care possible every day.

In a small rural hospital, we may not have the biggest buildings, or endless resources โ€” but what we do have is heart. We know our patients by name. We celebrate their victories, grieve their losses, and care for generations of families who trust us during lifeโ€™s most important moments. Every department, every shift, and every role matters because in a rural hospital, teamwork is not just a goal โ€” it is how we survive and how we serve.

During Hospital Week, we celebrate the people who show up day after day with compassion, resilience, and dedication. The nurses who stay late, the aides who offer comfort, the therapists who help patients regain strength, the respiratory therapists who help patients breathe easier, the dietary staff who serve with kindness, the housekeeping teams who keep us safe, the registration staff who greet every patient with a smile, and every employee working behind the scenes to make care possible.

Rural healthcare is not always easy. The days are long, the challenges are real, and resources can be limited. But what makes a small hospital extraordinary is the people inside it. We are more than coworkers โ€” we are neighbors, friends, and family caring for our own community.
Thank you for the sacrifices you make, the lives you touch, and the hope you provide every single day. Your work matters more than words can express. In a world that often feels rushed and impersonal, this hospital remains a place where compassion still leads the way.
Happy Hospital Week to the heroes of rural healthcare. Your kindness is the heartbeat of this community.
