🍁 We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! As we move into December, we wanted to spotlight the sweetest slices of last month, which included celebrating National Alliance for Care at Home's National Care at Home Month. Our hearts are stuffed with gratitude as we reflect on the daily dedication of a team that shares one steadfast goal: helping our community in every way imaginable. ✨ After seven years of meticulous case management, mindful nursing and meritorious leadership, our agency administrator, Ruth Stewart, will be retiring from Indian River Home Care. However, in true Ruth fashion, she followed her final full week in the office by showing up promptly the very next Monday.

✨ We are forever grateful for the around-the-clock dedication (quite literally) that Ruth has devoted to Indian River Home Care, and we are so appreciative of the support she continues to offer as the following transitions take place:

✨ James Thomas, PT, MBA, our former Director of Clinical Services, has been promoted to Administrator, and we could not be more excited to see what he has in store for expanding our reach while preserving the deeply personal standard of care that defines us. James brings more than three decades of leadership experience across acute, sub-acute, home health, and rehabilitation settings, combined with an MBA in Health Care Administration and practical expertise as the owner and operator of a licensed residential health care facility.

✨ We are also proud to announce the addition of Lisa Kuh, MSN, BSN, CRRN, who will be stepping into the Director of Nursing role. Lisa offers elevated acumen in acute care, rehabilitation, and healthcare operations — expertise that ultimately led her to serve as Chief Nursing Officer for Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of the Treasure Coast. With a strong educational foundation and a Master of Science in Nursing, Lisa has directed clinical operations for teams of more than 120 members, consistently ensuring exceptional patient outcomes, regulatory excellence, and seamless interdisciplinary coordination.

✨ Lastly, if you think you see Karen Lampert, BSN, RN, End-of-Life Doula, in this photo, you are correct! After a six-year intermission from Indian River Home Care, we are thrilled to announce her return as our Patient Advocate and Outreach Specialist. Not only was Karen awarded the prestigious Terri Santangelo Outstanding Leader Award in 2018, she played an invaluable role in shaping Indian River Home Care into the personalized, patient-centered, boutique agency it is today — laying the foundation for the growth we continue to build upon.

🌟 Can you guess who our next Indian River Home Care hero is? In just a few weeks our newest video series will showcase how this patient put his best foot forward — going from bed-bound, to two feet on the ground!

⚓️ A slip on his dock led to a broken ankle and surgery, requiring bed rest and a wound vac to promote healing. With our nursing services to provide wound care; physical therapy to customize exercises; and nursing assistants to help with meals and showers, he has been able to recover within the comfort of his own home.

We had a ✨stellar✨ week at the Home Care Association of Florida (HCAF) HomeCareCon 36th Annual Conference & Trade Show – The Next Frontier for Home Care: Charting the Course for Innovation, Quality & Care.

HCAF “exists to provide representation, communication, and advocacy for home care providers” giving them “the education and resources they need to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services to patients/clients at home.”

While we were able to explore new territory, 🪐 such as how to integrate satellite internet into our emergency management plan, we were also able to affirm the stars 🌟 we’ve always known to align. As stated by HCAF President Michelle Young Rogers during her address — “home care is the center of healing” — and with Indian River Home Care, you can heal at home with the help of nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and nursing assistants.

🐸 We hopped into the weekend at Painted Frog and had such a heartwarming day spending time with our nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, and administrative staff outside of work!

"I had knee surgery in December and that was no picnic, as I’m sure you can imagine. But I was blessed to have a wonderful physical therapist through Indian River Home Care, and I would not have even been able to begin recovery without her.

Carie is a wonderful person, and her professional and empathetic attitude is something that I find very rare in a person of her profession. What she does and how she performs is because of how much she cares. I felt like we immediately clicked, and I had complete trust in her. She was extremely knowledgeable and gave me so many tips to help me along, just because she genuinely cared.

She suggested a cream to ease the muscles in my leg; a floor-model pedal bike to improve my movement; getting bars installed in my shower; and literally numerous other things I’m sure I’ll think of later. What a huge difference this all made! I can now shower by myself, and that’s independence I really appreciate. I’m just so grateful, I cannot tell you!

Seriously, if I could ever refer Indian River Home Care to anyone I know having surgery like mine, I certainly would. Hopefully in a couple months I’ll have full motion, and I could not have done this without Carie."
