Polo is on for 2026...!👍 stayed tuned!!!
Background
Polo started being played in the late 1980s in Vero Beach. The barrier island community of Windsor hosted matches with Prince Charles, now King Charles, being invited to play by Galen Weston and Geoffrey Kent, Windsors founders. In 2000 George Kahle along with Peter Busch and Charlie Replogle were instrumental in transplanting the Polo matches to Pointe West and then the Polo Grounds, a community where large homes look out upon the Polo field.
Club manager and pro Gaston Rodriguez grew up in Argentina near Hurlingham, possibly the most renowned polo club in the world, where he learned the game from his father and some of the best polo players. In 1993, when he was 15, Gaston started to accompany his father, professional polo player Remigio Rodriguez, to the U.S. for the Florida season. In about 2003, the annual visit became a permanent move, and he spent several years working for and playing with Charlie Replogle, patron of the Vero Beach Ocean Grill team.
Along with King Charles other notable players have included, the late Sunny Hale, Tommy Lee and Dawn Jones, Adolfo Cambiaso and Tim Gannon of the Outback Polo team, Lolo Castagnola, Hope Arellano along with members of the Gracida and Merlos polo families.
Low to medium goal fun, friendly, family polo is the focus of the VBPC with a special emphasis being placed on bringing along junior players who have achieved great success around the world.Winning tournaments and awards where ever they go including the Avendano in Palm Beach and playing for the USA in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Argentina and elshere.
Every Sunday game and tournament is sponsored by local and national business's and or local charities such as One Sotheby's International Realty and SPECIAL EQUESTRIANS. Each game has a fundraising element.
At every game hundreds of tailgaters enjoy polo at the Vero Beach Polo Club with professional polo announcer Dawn Garvey Redman calling the games and educating those who new to Polo about the rules of the game and it's history. Dawn "The Voice of Vero Beach Polo" has been on the microphone since the very first game in Windsor.
The motto of the Vero Beach Polo Club coined by long time club patron and player Frank Evans is " FUN, FRIENDLY, FAMILY POLO" for both players and spectators alike. Sunday matches at the Vero Beach Polo Club are welcoming, exciting, accessible and a fantastic way to see why the Game of Kings is still the King of Games.
