Iliopsoas release & differentiation

The video shows a simple way to help release restrictions and adhesions in the iliopsoas. First, lay on the 4" all ball. The ball should be on one side of your belly button towards your hip. Wait 3-5 minutes for release. To release adhesions, start moving your leg. The video shows the donkey kick. You can also rotate your leg in & out & push your knee into the surface you are laying on.

Iliopsoas & Adductor Magnus

Iliopsoas are 2 muscles that are your main hip flexors. They attach to the front of your lumbar spine, line you hip, and finish at your inner thigh. They are the antagonist of the glutes. If they can't turn off, your glutes can't turn off.

Adductor magnus is fascially connected to the psoas. It is a tricky muscle. It's hard to find a good picture of it, because it really touches on most of the areas of your thigh. Pictures either look overly simple or overly complicated. One of the main functions of adductor magnus is to straighten the leg at the hip. As such, restrictions here often feel like high hamstring tightness, but they can also be felt in the pelvic floor. They are related to low back pain as well.

Lighten up

More than usual in the treatment room, people have been talking about heaviness: bloating, lethargy, depression and anxiety, etc. Often this occurs after a heavy workout. Inflammation can cause a build up of fluid. It is also linked with depression. Basically, physical and mental heaviness are linked. If this rings true, you may want to try some manual lymphatic drainage to lighten up. Of course, if your doctor says you shouldn't do massage-cancer, heart failure, etc.-ask first.

Moving On

On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, Dane County is ending all COVID-19 public health mandates. Per the PHMDC dashboard, COVID-19 cases average 4 per 100,000 people in Dane County. It's time to move past this. Recover Releaf Massage will no longer be requiring masks or doing COVID screening starting this Wednesday.

On the other hand:
1. If you're sick, please stay home.
2. If you have been around someone sick, please contact me so we can decide what we are both comfortable with.
3. If you don't feel ready to go maskless, just text me or put a note in your appointment.

Please be assured that I will continue to follow stringent standard precautions, because there are other things out there, and no one wants to be sick.

Self care/life hack: obturator internus

Ever have that pain at the base of your butt? Or feel like a hamstring isn't firing from that same area? Or maybe one foot just always flops to the side instead of walking the line.. There can be many other symptoms, including low back pain or pelvic floor pain. Basically, if something's off with your hips and you can't figure it out, obturator internus may be involved.

Fortunately, the fix is pretty easy. Just grab your lacrosse ball. Next, locate your ischial tuberosity or 'sit bone.' Put the ball on the inside of the bone, closer to your midline. Then sit on a table at a comfortable height to be able to manage the pressure. It's not uncommon to experience spasms as it releases. Your leg may also feel like it's lengthening.
