Kidney 4 Zain

Kidney 4 Zain I am a mother looking for a kidney for my son. Maybe I can help others find a kidney as well.

4 months post transplant and everything is going GREAT! Even a reduction in drugs.

We were finally able to donate the unopened medical/dialysis supplies left over from Zain's 1 year on dialysis! Thank you to Wisconsin Medical Project for the work they do!!

Zain is home now and his new kidney shows NO signs of rejection! Just keep drinking MORE water...

Zain had his first follow up appointment with transplant today. They weren't crazy about his recent labs, ultrasound, and report on how he is feeling. They admitted him for the night and will do a biopsy on his new kidney tomorrow. 😕

So, new adventures now.

Now we can worry about med levels and side effects. Labs and why they are not were we want them....
The Tacrolimous is giving Zain tremors at too high of a dose. It takes a lot of trial and error to get the dosing right on that very important med. Is it the Tac or the Prednisone that is causing night sweats? What is making his heart race?
Zain's creatinine is not dropping as much as the Dr.'s want. Why?
Now, Zain has an appointment for an ultrasound on Friday to see if all is OK with the kidney.... Then, Jan 7th is his first all day follow up with the transplant team.... And don't forget the twice a week lab appointments....

Just had all the dialysis equipment picked up!!
BUT... Sad at all the stuff they wouldn't take back unless I wanted it thrown away.... Does anyone know where I could donate it? They even said that they would throw away the centrifuge if it was "dirty".
The medical industry is so wasteful. I wish there could be a method to reuse or to minimize waste.... :(

Zain is doing great!
Thank you to all the
living donors out there!!

Everything has gone well at the hospital so far. But Zain's new kidney was delayed getting here (missed a plane I think). So it's 5 hours later than planned, but Zain is in the OR as I type this. It's so quiet and empty in this (otherwise) very busy hospital. Peaceful.

Hopefully, Zain's last dialysis ever today! There is a possibility that his transplanted kidney could be "sleepy" and that he may need some more time on dialysis until the kidney "wakes up". BUT since he has a LIVING donor, the chances are very small.
Tomorrow he will have a blood draw at UW Hospital at 9am to check his potassium levels. They have to be in a safe zone for surgery. If they aren't he will spend time during the day to get them corrected. We have not heard yet when we will have to be at hospital for pre-surgery. We will hear later today.
Sending LOVE out to all of you that have been so supportive to me and Zain and the rest of my family!!!

A minute ago I took Zain off his second to last dialysis. He'll have one more tomorrow, then transplant surgery on Wednesday. Suddenly, I feel waves of giddiness and tearful joy crashing on my shores of apprehension.
