Chinese medicine, like Ayurvedic medicine, its Indian counterpart, is the science of life. This science is dedicated to grasping the laws of the life force, which includes: its flow, or movement; its balance, or harmony; its change, or transmutation (qi hua); its rhythms, or cycles; its origin, supply, assimilation, transformation, storage, release, and excretion; its pathways; its correspondences; and its functions. All of these are susceptible to a precisely refined and sophisticated diagnostic methodology.

In Chinese medicine, one studies and treats the person, and not the disease, whereas in the west, we treat the disease and not the person.
