Alison's Gourmet Food Fundraiser
Alzheimer's of Central Alabama provides at least $50,000 each year to the South Highland Adult Care Center to assist client families with program fees. SHC Director Alison Walker holds a big yearly gourmet food fundraiser to support ACA's annual Walk to Remember. All funds raised stay in Central Alabama and benefit people living with Alzheimer's and their families.

For this fall, Alison is offering her full menu of favorite goodies - from soup to nuts: two delicious soups by the quart, blueberry scones by the dozen, pimiento cheese by the half-pint, and - NEW THIS YEAR - famous Priester's pecans by the pound.

We will take orders through Monday, October 13; you can pick up your items on Wednesday, October 29 from 3:00–5:00 p.m. in the circle drive on Highland Avenue.

Payment by cash, personal check or Venmo will be accepted at pickup time. You will receive a confirmation email when you place your order; if you don't receive the email, please contact Alison Walker at 205-933-2232.

Ever wondered what home care is really like? Check out this story from our Operating Director, Marcus, from today to see compassion in action.

“Where do I start..? We received a call from one of our caregivers earlier today. She was letting us know that one of our veteran’s home was on fire. The fire department was there and everyone was safely outside. It was the end of the fire but only the beginning of a long, challenging day for our veteran.

Our caregiver (Brittany) did an amazing job showing compassion and care for our client today. She stayed with the veteran all day. Not because we asked her to but because she genuinely cares for him.

While driving to his home, I called his VA case manager (who is truly a rockstar) to discuss options and update her on the situation. She started off by telling how wonderful Brittany has been today and how helpful she was when she had called this veteran to check on him.”

Pictured below are Marcus and Brittany on the porch of our veteran’s home after the fire. Our veteran has been approved for a significant Respite stay as he makes some decisions about this home that he built himself.

We are so very thankful to work with such a great team of case managers and Brittany and Marcus will be taking him to his VA doctor Monday before going to visit Hanceville Nursing & Rehab in hopes of a smooth transition to his Respite stay.

Thank you to Brittany for everything today and for showing what compassion truly is! Brittany was an easy choice for our CAREGIVER OF THE WEEK!

*Puppy not included in Caregiver of the Week award. 😉
