As the weather turns cooler and we enter a season when the nights may feel busier than usual, coming home to a bowl of cozy soup can be both nourishing and nurturing 😋
A slow cooker can be helpful with preparation and making the home smell great too!

This is your friendly reminder to nourish your body everyday, even when it’s Thanksgiving. “Saving up calories” for a holiday meal is not supportive of a connected experience and can increase the likelihood for feeling unpleasant, urgent hunger that often leads to feeling overly full and uncomfortable. Show up ready, nourished and plate your intention without primal hunger present. Happy thanksgiving from the Nutri Focus team 🦃🍁

Who else is loving all of the fall vibes?! Fall brings cooler weather, pumpkin flavored everything, and lots of reasons to gather. Whether it is a tailgate party, friend’s gathering, or Halloween Party... Oftentimes the fall presents opportunities where food is present in the form of appetizers, tapas, and snack options. For some people, this can be a little stressful. A few things we encourage you to do:

Show up ready for a meal or snack but try not to show up ravenous. (* Hint Hint* This could mean having a snack an hour or two before the event. But definitely not “saving up” for the food you will eat here.)
Plate what you intend to eat. Plate what sounds good to you. Plate a variety of foods with different textures, temperatures, and flavors. Plate the amount you desire.
Give yourself endless permission. If you are still hungry once you finish your first plate, take a moment and pause, engage in conversation, and check in with hunger & fullness. Then, give yourself endless permission to continue nourishing your body.

This is your friendly reminder that nourishing your body does not have to be overly complicated and can shift and change based on the season and what is available to you.

Alabama, it’s been HOT. Here are some tips & tricks for making sure you stay hydrated 💦

✨Take sips of water throughout your meal. This helps your body retain H20.

✨Add in fun fruit flavors like lemon, lime, or any other fruit for fun flavor changes that keep things interesting.

✨Enjoy Electrolyte add ins or beverages. Not only does this keep it interesting with flavors but electrolytes are also vital in maintaining fluid balance in the cells.

✨Enjoy fruits that are in season and also high in water content like peaches, watermelon, and strawberries.

Stay hydrated Alabama 💦 🩵

The seeds down, weathered rain, leaves sprout, fruit begins to grow. Food holds a lot of wisdom— patience to root deep and wait for fruit when what we want is “now”. It bumps into environmental stressors— some heat and stress creates the greater fruit, and others we learn are life-quenching and need pruning. Healing is such a journey- non-linear and constantly learning.

Depending on what season you’re in— a seed, waiting for roots to sprout a leaf, in the middle of a storm, sun-drought summer, or seeing the fruit ripen— know that no labor goes in vain. Our bodies take time to heal as our brains re-learn what goodness and wisdom our bodies hold. that nourishment is beyond the food itself but— it teaches us about where we need the most healing and thus most connection and joy.

Health is not "one size fits all". Health is multifactorial and can/will look different for everyone. Health often looks different in different seasons because hey, life happens, right? Honoring your health does not always have to do with nourishment and movement. Taking a step toward honoring your health could be as simple as trying to get a full 8 hours of rest, putting your cell phone away at the dinner table, or going for a 10 minute walk to clear your mind and get some fresh air. Redefining our culture's limited view of health can be so freeing and reduce shame!

Some of our hydration needs are met through food which also provides energy and antioxidants.  During hot summer months, the high fluid content of seasonal fruits and vegetables is a nourishing bonus!  Fluids are important for numerous physiological processes.  Have a great weekend and stay hydrated! 🍉 💦

Breakfast does not have to be a beautiful curated bowl of goodness (although we do love when it is)! Real life brings mornings when you need something quick and on-the-go. Finding grab-and-go items can set your body and mind fueled to thrive on busy mornings. Fun tip: using a granola bar as a dipping spoon for yogurt can sometimes be helpful in a quick pinch!

Sometimes food is about getting fueled for the day and the function that each food provides... And sometimes food is simply about connection with others and lingering around the table. Nourishing your body can include both satisfaction and connection AND it can be nourishing to your body!
