Community Education Workshop: Creating a Special Education Paper Trail, with presenter Katrina Wellborn, Community Training Coordinator, Alabama Parent Education Center (APEC) on Wednesday, March 20th from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. We will be at the B B Comer Memorial Library in Sylacauga.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will learn about the benefits of keeping good educational records
2. Participants will identify which documents they should keep.
3. Participants will learn about requesting records
4. Participants will learn about different strategies and resources available for keeping good records

Katrina is the Community Training Coordinator for the Alabama Parent Education Center. She is also the State Lead for the Independent Futures that Work project (IFWT). IFWT is an effort of the Alabama Parent Education Center with collaborating partners from the Parent Training and Information Centers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and Texas. Katrina has 17 years of dedication and experience working with families to share the impact of literacy, education, and family engagement in the lives of children. In her time at APEC, Katrina has coordinated training activities for parents, educators, and professionals in the areas of school home partnerships, special education, and literacy. Katrina has also worked closely with the Alabama State Department of Education’s Special Education Department to organize focus group sessions to discuss transition concerns and services students with disabilities. Katrina is the mother and learning coach of two children, ages 8 and 14.
