Heidi Lynn Yip, NP in Acute Care PLLC Board Certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in Headache disorders. I completed nursing school at Finger Lakes Community College in May 2011. in Liberal Arts.

While there I received dual degrees: A.A.S in Nursing and A.S. After, I began working as a medical ICU RN at Upstate University Hospital and completed a B.S. in Nursing at Upstate Medical University in December 2014. I continued to work as a critical care RN at Upstate, going on to become and ICU float nurse where I received experience in all adult specialties. I finished my time at Upstate University Hospital in their trauma ED before moving to NYC for one year while my husband completed his fellowship in Orthopedics - specializing in upper extremity. I completed an M.S. in Nursing at St John Fisher College - specializing in Adult Gerontology Acute Care - in August 2019. Soon after, I began my career at Ontario Neurology Associates as a board certified Nurse Practitioner and have been with the practice since January 2020. I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau International and previously held CCRN and TNCC certifications. Most recently, I have become certified with an Added Qualification in Headache Medicine through the National Headache Foundation. My husband and I live in Fairport and have four children: Jack, Henry, Anna and Charlie (twins). When we get free time we love to golf or go out to dinner.

Good morning!!

With a likely government shutdown beginning tomorrow October 1 - telehealth will no longer be a covered service. The current end date for telehealth is September 30, 2025. If the government passes a resolution this will be extended.

BUT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE - STARTING TOMORROW WE WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO DO VIDEO APPOINTMENTS IF THE GOVERNMENT SHUTS DOWN. Please call the office ASAP if you're scheduled for a video appointment and will NOT be able to come in person at your scheduled appointment time.

We regret to inform you that as of November 2, 2025 we will no longer be participating with Fidelis insurance. We have tried to negotiate a fair contract with Fidelis that will allow Heidi to continue to provide you with exceptional headache care, however unfortunately Fidelis is not interested in making this happen. Currently, Fidelis feels they are only responsible for paying a portion of the cost of medications that Heidi uses to treat her patients and that since Heidi is a nurse practitioner (as opposed to a physician), she should be responsible for about one third of the cost of medications she purchases. This has resulted in losses of over $600 for just one IV treatment in some instances. I hope you can understand why she had to make this very difficult decision.

Heidi is happy to continue seeing you after November 2, 2025 as a self-pay patient. Your appointment cost would be $100 and any treatments or testing ordered would still be covered under your insurance. For procedures, please call the office to discuss pricing. Medications such as BOTOX and Vyepti will come from a Specialty Pharmacy covered through your insurance and you would just be responsible for the administration fee in the office. For any acute treatment of headache (migraine cocktail or Toradol injections) you would be responsible for the medication cost and administration fee, but they are generally quite affordable. Alternatively, you can also switch insurance companies during open enrollment if that is a possibility for you. We accept almost all other major insurances and smaller local policies.

Please contact us as soon as possible if you would like a referral to another provider who manages headaches. We will send these records so you can get an appointment scheduled as soon as possible.

We are truly sorry this is happening. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. Heidi is committed to making any transition and smooth as possible.

To make this even more infuriating - this was a PEDIATRIC SPECIALIST/INTERNAL MEDICINE MD that made this decision to deny treatment for my patient. For a headache disorder she DOES NOT specialize in - nor is the treatment requested something she would be as as a PEDIATRIC SPECIALIST.

This is who is controlling your treatment. People who are NOT well versed in the specialty area they are deciding for. People who have the nerve to question my training and capabilities that have NO specialized training OR interest in MY specialty.

I was just doing a peer to peer to try and get treatment approved for one of my patients and the female MD on the phone said:

"I'm sorry what is your training?"

I advised her that I specialize in headaches. She then responses with:

"How? Are you a neurologist?"

I told her I was not, that I was a nurse practitioner. She then asked me:

"How do you specialize in headaches then?"

I explained I own a headache clinic and have an Added Qualification in Headache Medicine. After she tried telling me BOTOX is only allowed if done by MDs and Pain Specialist (WRONG) she then proceeded to argue with me for > 15 minutes that she did not have any appeal letters or documented phone calls from my office regarding approval for said treatment. She told me "we do not keep everything that is sent to us. We get so much stuff sent to us, we would never be able to find everything if we kept it all in the files."

I sent an appeal letter for treatment in May 2025 - and received confirmation via fax that Excellus received it. We called Excellus > 5 times from May - July inquiring about this case. We documented who we spoke with and the reference numbers we were given by insurance. But she has no documentation of anything. Because they do not keep it.

This is a real problem. You are paying for your insurance company to pay for your care. I am taking extra time fighting for you to get what you need. Your insurance company is ignoring my documentation and denying your requested treatment. I am not getting paid for any of this. They are getting your money and refusing to pay for your treatment.

Never have a I EVER been talked as if I am not capable of providing care because I am a Nurse Practitioner. Here's the thing doc - I am practicing completely independent of a physician and in network with Excellus BECAUSE OF ME. I fought your policy and I won. So next time keep your obvious displeasure of Advanced Practice Providers to YOURSELF. Meanwhile, I will be over here still advocating and fighting for my patients to get what they need and deserve.
