Instead of wiping tears and passing a box of tissues, members of Hospice of South Texas’ Grief Group broke bread together and traded smiles as they shared a meal Tuesday. They’ve lost husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters but their grief and pain took a backseat on on this day ...

“When making the hard decisions for a loved one, you have to push aside what you want for them and listen to what they want. I have been caring for the sick all of my adult life and have seen that final breath of life leave them... I cry every time they leave us. Every. Single. Time.

When my mother received a head injury her quality of life began to decline. We dragged her from one doctor’s appointment to another trying to get her back to where she was. It wasn’t working. She was tired of going in and out of hospitals and having tests run day after day. When she made her wishes known to stop it all it was hard. We wanted more time. She wanted quality, not quantity.

As hard as it was, we granted her wish and that is when Hospice of South Texas came in... They guided us through the process and provided the necessary medications and equipment that mom needed.
..Placing mom on hospice was the best ever. She got to do what she wanted that did not include having a battery of tests that required pain and endless suffering. She got to be closer to her friends and family. She got to tell each one of her grandchildren how much she loved them. She got to watch the sunsets and eat her favorite foods. She was living her quality of life on her terms and with the help of her family and Hospice of South Texas she accomplished it without pain and suffering.”

A week ago, we all listened with heavy hearts to the devastating news of the floods impacting Kerrville and the surrounding Hill Country communities. Today, those families and neighborhoods are still very much on our minds and in our prayers.

At Hospice of South Texas, our team tied green bows on our tree as a symbol of hope, strength, and solidarity with everyone affected. 💚

Are you navigating the pain of loss? You're not alone. Join our Grief Group Counseling sessions every Tuesday at 10:00 AM at the Dornburg Center of Compassion. These weekly gatherings offer a supportive and understanding space to help you heal.

This past Tuesday, our theme was "Releasing Our Grief." Participants gathered in the chapel for a time of prayer and reflection, then released balloons as a symbolic gesture of letting go and moving forward.

Whether you're beginning your journey through grief or continuing down the path to healing, we welcome you with open arms.
