Development is more than just milestones, itâs a whole system working together. đ§ â¨
When we think about our childâs growth, itâs easy to focus on what theyâre doing - rolling, crawling, talking, walking. But underneath those milestones are multiple developmental domains working together at the same time:
⢠Motor (movement + coordination)
⢠Sensory (how they process the world around them)
⢠Cognitive (learning, thinking, problem solving)
⢠Social + emotional (connection, regulation, behavior)
⢠Communication (speech, language, expression)
These donât develop in isolation. They are deeply interconnected and all rely on a well-functioning nervous system.
For example:
A child who is struggling with sensory processing may also have difficulty with motor planning⌠which can then impact confidence, behavior, and even speech development.
Thatâs why looking at development through a neurological lens matters. Instead of only asking, âAre they hitting milestones?â we can ask:
đ âHow is their nervous system supporting those milestones?â
When the nervous system is regulated and adaptable, children are better able to move, learn, connect, and grow the way theyâre designed to. Supporting the foundation supports the whole child. đŞ
