Our HCC, Kellie Purvis, shares her personal experience and why she chose a career in hospice.

I’m a respiratory therapist of 15 years by trade. I had always been on the other side of the treatment scale. I wanted to be able to save everyone. My grandmother gradually got sicker and sicker. As we continued in and out of the hospital, the doctor came in on her final stay to recommend hospice. I immediately declined hospice and accepted home health care. After discharging home, we quickly realized she was not able to do therapy. We, as a family, decided it was time for hospice. I never understood what hospice really meant for families and patients. I walked into this position still not fully knowing what all we could provide, but I knew I wanted to be able to help others, just as hospice helped my family.
It's an honor to walk with someone in their final journey and support families in those moments.
For many, death isn't just an end—it's a sacred transition. Being trusted to be part of that process is a privilege that makes hospice work feel deeply purposeful.

We are blessed to have Andy Williams as our hospice chaplain. When asked why he chose to serve in hospice, he shared:

I believe that God divinely placed me with hospice. What started as a prn position for extra income has become my passion and calling. Hospice has allowed me to meet so many wonderful people. I enjoy helping patients and families find closure at the end of life.

Here's a look into what inspires Ashley Richardson, HCC

As a Hospice Care Consultant, I have the privilege of educating families, providers, and communities about the gift of hospice care: comfort, dignity, and support when it's needed most. I may not have a personal experience that led me to choose hospice as a career, but I do enjoy being a voice and an advocate for those that may feel vulnerable. Hospice isn't about giving up; it's about living fully, with peace and purpose, surrounded by compassion and care. At the end of the day, I do this because every person deserves to be cared for with love, respect and dignity--until the very last breath.
