Cortisol we need it to function and wake up in the am, but too much is a problem.

🔁 How Cortisol Increases Appetite & Cravings and Affects Weight:

Elevated cortisol can increase appetite, especially for sugary, fatty, and salty foods. This can be your body preparing for a "fight or flight" response—but in modern life, we rarely burn off those extra calories. We need the fight or flight response to escape dangerous situations but our body can’t discern when we actually are in danger.

Fat Storage—Especially in the Belly:
High cortisol levels encourage fat storage in the abdominal area. This visceral fat is more harmful and linked to metabolic conditions like type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

Muscle Breakdown:
Chronic stress and elevated cortisol can lead to muscle loss, which slows your metabolism and makes weight gain more likely.

Insulin Resistance:
Chronic stress and high cortisol affects how your body uses insulin. Elevated levels may contribute to insulin resistance, which leads to weight gain and difficulty losing weight.

Sleep Disruption:
