🌸 Hello Spring! 🌼
Let’s Talk Allergies vs. Illness in Kids

As the weather warms up and everything starts to bloom, we also see an increase in sniffles, coughs, and congestion. But how can you tell if your child has seasonal allergies or is actually sick?

Here are some helpful tips:

🤧 It might be ALLERGIES if:
• Symptoms last for weeks (especially during high pollen days)
• Clear, watery runny nose
• Frequent sneezing
• Itchy eyes, nose, or throat
• No fever
• Child is still active and playful

🤒 It might be SICKNESS if:
• Symptoms come on suddenly
• Fever is present
• Thick yellow/green mucus
• Body aches or fatigue
• Sore throat or ear pain
• Symptoms improve within 7–10 days

🌼 Helpful Tips:
• Keep windows closed on high pollen days
• Have kids wash hands/face after playing outside
• Change clothes after outdoor play
• Talk to your pediatrician about safe allergy medications

If you’re ever unsure, we’re here to help! Call our office to schedule an appointment or ask questions 💙

Today we celebrate the strength, compassion, and resilience of women everywhere. 💜

In pediatrics, we see every day how powerful women truly are. From the mothers who carry, nurture, and fiercely advocate for their children, to the grandmothers, aunts, caregivers, and the women who dedicate their lives to caring for little ones. Women are the heart of every child’s story.

Simply put… without women, there would be no children. And without the love, patience, and strength women bring to the world, childhood wouldn’t be the same.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the incredible women who shape the lives of the next generation. 🌸

💜 March is Autoimmune Disease Awareness Month 💜

Did you know autoimmune diseases can affect children too? An autoimmune disease happens when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own healthy cells.

In kids, this can show up in many ways and is sometimes difficult to recognize at first.

⚠️ Symptoms parents should watch for may include:
• Ongoing fatigue
• Unexplained fevers
• Joint pain or swelling
• Frequent rashes
• Hair loss
• Stomach pain or digestive issues
• Poor growth or weight changes

Some autoimmune conditions seen in children include:
• Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis
• Type 1 Diabetes
• Celiac Disease
• Lupus
• Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis

Early recognition and proper evaluation can make a big difference in a child’s health and quality of life.

👩‍⚕️ If your child has persistent or unexplained symptoms, don’t ignore them. Talk with your pediatric provider.

Awareness leads to earlier diagnosis, better treatment, and healthier futures for our kids. 💜

❄️ Winter Storm Prep for Families with Little Ones ❄️

With, what meteorologist are calling a winter storm, on the way, now is a great time to make sure you’re ready—especially if the power goes out. Babies and kids need a little extra planning to stay safe, warm, and comfortable.

✔️ Stock up on diapers, wipes, formula & meds
✔️ Have flashlights and extra batteries ready
✔️ Gather blankets, warm clothes, and sleep sacks
✔️ Have non perishable food and bottled water
✔️ Charge phones, power banks, etc
✔️ Keep a first aid kit easily accessible

A little prep now can make a big difference later. Stay safe, stay warm, and check on your neighbors! 💙🩵

🎒 Back to School & Daycare After the Holidays 🏫✨
We know the holidays are full of fun, family… and germs 😅 As kids head back to school and daycare, here’s a quick guide to help keep everyone healthy!

🤒 WHEN SHOULD MY CHILD STAY HOME?
Please keep your child home if they have:
• Fever 100.4°F or higher (must be fever-free for 24 hours without meds)
• Vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours
• Persistent cough causing breathing trouble
• Pink eye with drainage
• Flu-like symptoms (body aches, chills, fatigue)

🏡 OKAY TO RETURN TO SCHOOL/DAYCARE WHEN:
• Fever-free for 24 hours without Tylenol or Motrin
• No vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours
• Feeling well enough to participate in normal activities

📞 WHEN SHOULD I CALL THE DOCTOR?
Call us if your child has:
• Fever lasting more than 3 days
• Trouble breathing or fast breathing
• Signs of dehydration (dry mouth, fewer wet diapers/urination)
• Ear pain, severe sore throat, or worsening symptoms
• A cough that won’t improve or keeps getting worse
**(just to name a few)**

🧼 HELP STOP THE SPREAD:
• Wash hands often
• Teach kids to cough/sneeze into elbows
• Clean backpacks, lunchboxes, and water bottles regularly

Thank you for helping keep our schools, daycares, and community healthy 💙
If you’re unsure whether your child should stay home, give us a call—we’re always happy to help!
