Five years ago, Kaufman Allergy Asthma and Immunology was founded with a bold vision — not simply to open a practice, but to elevate the standard of allergy and immunology care in Northern Virginia.

Today, as we celebrated this milestone at our annual team luncheon, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride in what has been built alongside an exceptional team, and deep gratitude for the trust of the patients, physicians, and community partners we are honored to serve. Sharing our 2026 vision and strategic direction reinforced what we already believe — the future of our practice is incredibly bright.

From the very beginning, we have believed that outstanding healthcare is never delivered in isolation. It is strengthened through meaningful collaboration with referring physicians, advanced practice providers, and community leaders who share a commitment to clinical excellence and compassionate, patient-centered care.

Over the past five years, Kaufman Allergy has grown into a trusted destination for comprehensive allergy and immunology services — grounded in integrity, driven by quality, and supported by relationships that elevate the care experience for our entire community.

❄️ We’re grateful to be safely reopened today after the ice storm, and are back to an almost normal schedule.

Allergy shots will start at 8:30 for the rest of the week to allow a little more time for a safe commute.

The safety of our patients and team is always our top priority. Please take extra care on the roads and in our parking lot if you’re coming in.🧊

❄️Weather Update – Monday Closure ❄️

Due to winter storm forecasts and snow projections in the DC area, our office will be closed for in-person care on Monday to keep our patients and team safe and off the roads.

• No allergy shots or injections
• No in-person appointments or procedures
• All visits will be transitioned to telehealth

Our team will be working remotely and answering phones and text messages as usual. Let’s all stay warm, stay safe, and avoid becoming human popsicles!🥶🧊

🎉 As we close out 2025, I find myself reflecting on one unforgettable year — and feeling so deeply grateful. 💚

Just one year ago, Kaufman Allergy moved into our brand new (and beautifully serene) office — more than double our original space. We transitioned to a new EHR, patient communication platform, and billing company… a full renovation of how we operate. Through every change, our team chose joy, stability, and an unwavering dedication to the patients we’re privileged to serve. ✨

This year, my gratitude begins with our incredible team — our providers Dr. Aukstuolis, Dr. Eghrari-Sabet, and Elaine McSorley-Gerard; Ashley Scott who leads immunotherapy mixing; our in-office medical assistants and medical receptionist; our virtual assistant team; and our medical billing specialists. Returning home from holiday travel to a deep freeze in Vienna is an immediate reminder that winter has arrived!🥶💨

At this time of year, we hear so often about winter weather related symptoms - the dry air, nasal congestion and mouth breathing, tightness in the chest and cough, dry itchy skin…the list goes on.

Things to keep in mind👇

❄️ Cold-induced asthma can flare when frigid air hits the lungs, especially during early morning school drop-offs or outdoor sports.
❄️ Dry skin & winter itch are so common in patients with eczema — cold air and indoor heating strip the skin of its natural moisture barrier.
❄️ Cold-induced hives are real! Sudden welts or swelling after being in the cold? That’s definitely something that needs a plan to manage.

Symptoms can be great reminders that the winter is not an “off-season” for allergy care! Plus, the spring pollen is only a few months away!!🌳🌸

If spring takes you out every year… this is your moment to plan ahead for 2026. Prevention and planning starts now, so you can enjoy the highly anticipated warmer temps of spring without losing weeks to symptoms of misery.
